He's got soul! John Travolta hit the French Riviera for the Cannes Film Festival this week, taking a grooming risk by showing off a bizarre soul patch.

The actor, 60, attended the Puerto Azul Experience party in Cannes with his wife, Kelly Preston. He dressed up for the evening, wearing a black suit with a black bow tie and a printed pocket square. His face, however, seemed to miss the memo on the dress code, as Travolta sculpted a small square patch of hair on the bottom of his chin.

Preston, 51, who rubbed elbows with the likes of Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, and Milla Jovovich at the party, wore a figure-hugging black strapless gown with an ornate bib necklace and a silver clutch.

The Old Dogs star has experimented with his facial hair in the past. Travolta debuted a fuller version of the soul patch in his 2012 music video collaboration with Olivia Newton-John, "I Think You Might Like It." In March 2013, he sported a shorter, wider version.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) for Travolta, he may have to lose the chin accessory when his film schedule picks up this year. He has multiple upcoming movies including A Three Dog Life with Salma Hayek and Criminal Activities with Michael Pitt and Dan Stevens.
