Who knew psychedelic eye makeup could be so dreamy?!

Taylor Schilling, for starters, who tapped celeb makeup artist Tina Turnbow to create the peeper-poppin’ look when she stepped out to support costar Laverne Cox at the premiere of her documentary, The T Word, on Thursday, Oct. 16, in New York City.

Inspired by the bold florals in Schilling’s Thakoon playsuit, Turnbow exclusively explained to Us Weekly just how she created the Orange Is the New Black star’s multihued statement eye.

“I don’t usually use lilac colors, but I wanted to try mixing them in,” the makeup pro explained, adding that she likes to stay away from rosy hues because “they can make you look a bit like you have pink eye!”

No need to worry—the cornflower hues, especially strong against Schilling’s baby blues, made for a stunning look! To start, Turnbow rimmed the inside of the blonde beauty’s eyes in sapphire blue with MAC Chromagraphic Pencil in Marine Ultra. She then lined Schilling’s eyes with Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Vice, an eggplant hue. Finally, she accented her lids with Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Orchid, a royal purple, smudging the two hues to create an amethyst fade.

“I wanted to pick up [her outfit’s] colors, but use them on just one part of her face,” Turnbow revealed, who topped the whole look off with Clinque Lash Power mascara. “I think that’s the key, blending well and using colors that graduate well into each other, starting with the most intense color at the lashes and fading out so that it’s more of an accent.”

And while the mixture stunned on Schilling’s blue eyes, Turnbow promises that this combo of purples and blues can work with any eye color. “Anyone could pull it off, because blue brightens almost everyone’s eyes,” she said to Us. “It makes green eyes look even more green, but it works just as well on people with brown eyes because it brightens the whites of the eyes.”

Making sure to keep things balanced, Turnbow kept the rest of Schilling’s beauty palette neutral, adding Votre Vu Lip Lustre in Luscious on her pout because “it looks like your lip color, only better,” she laughed. “I was feeling those ’80s vibes, so I felt like a gloss would be good.”
