We were kind of bummed when Charlize Theron and Evan Rachel Wood arrived at the Critics' Choice Awards in chic, yet safe black dresses (Azzedine Alaia and Valentino respectively) on Thursday.

But both stars made up for their underwhelming fashion choices with crazy-cool hairstyles.
The 36-year-old Young Adult actress' updo looked like a regular braided bun from the front, but it was actually a French braid that twisted past her ear on one side with a bunch of smaller braids gathered into a bun on the other.

The Ides of March star, 24, whose hair is cropped super-short, sported a mix of small knots and twisted pieces that created the illusion of an updo.
