Sarah Palin Reacts to Bristol and Levi's Engagement

Sarah and Todd Palin are speaking out on Bristol and Levi Johnston's surprise engagement, as exclusively reported in the new issue of Us Weekly.
"Bristol at 19 is now a young adult. We obviously want what's best for our children," they said in a statement read on the Today show Wednesday morning. "Bristol believes in redemption and forgiveness to a degree most of us struggle to put in practice in our daily lives."

Bristol tells Us that she has kept her parents in the dark since becoming engaged to Johnston, 20, two weeks ago.
"It is intimidating and scary just to think about what her reaction is going to be. Hopefully she will jump on board," she told Us.

Sarah has made no secret of her icy feelings for Levi. He provoked her fury last fall when he claimed that she had called her infant son Trig (who has Down syndrome) "retarded." She fired back, telling reporters that anyone who posed for Playgirl would "say and do anything for even more attention." Later, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she dubbed him "Ricky Hollywood" and called his "aspiring porn" career "heartbreaking."

Earlier this month, Johnston issued a public apology to the Palins for saying "not completely true" things about them in the past.

Sarah Palin is a fraud and a phony. She's not a teabagger like me. Her family is so dysfunctional. I refudiate them.

MY CONGRATULATIONS TO BRISTOL AND LEVI, I WISH YOU BOTH THE VERY BEST IN LIFE TOGETHER !..... I believe that both, Bristol and Levi chose to make their marriage announcement themselves, because they both knew that if mom, Sarah was told, she would have called her own NEWS CONFERENCE to announcement their marriage plans, to garner attention for herself. And they did not want to be used by her AGAIN ! I truly felt sorry for Bristol on the night her mother paraded her and Levi out on stage during the Republican Convention. Giving them all a show of "motherly kisses." Sarah used them, as she does with all of her kids. And I knew it would come a time when Bristol would realize she was being used by her mother. But thank goodness she stopped carrying her own baby Trigg, around after she was told, she was using him to get attention by "carrying him around like a bag of French bread" by the young lady from "Family Guy" !
Who cares about yet another pair of "kids" having a baby out of wedlock? What makes them so special? Just trying to hold on to their 15 minutes of fame. So help me . . . if they get some stupid reality series, I'm throwing my TVs out the window.
@ Lynda I almost agree w/you BUT Bristol and Levi willingly went to a magazine and ousted their story. So who's stupid and PUTTING everyone in their business?

My guess is that the unexpected news of the pending nuptials between Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston is really just a ruse and not even true. The whole story is a publicity scam generated out of Sarah Palin’s office. Let's speak on values--doesn't anyone think it's WEIRD that Bristol would go the media to break the news to her parents?? That says TONS about her relationship w/Sarah who appears more and more to be PHONY and PHONY spouting on "family values" all the time--Pay some attention to your own kids/family and practice what you preach...

Well I'm Republican and female and will tell any MORON who is possibly thinking of supporting Sarah for a 2012 election is an idiot. True Bristol is 19 but this girl got pregnant while she was still under age UNDER her roof--then Bristol runs to the media to break the news to her parents--is that not a HUGE red flag to you Sarah loving idiots? Sarah can't even run her own household much less the country!!!
i know how everyone hate Sarah Palin, because of her conservative ways and all. i don't agree with her political values either, but what she says outside politics most of them is true, especially about this guy. he is no good. and she is right, people like him, would do anything for attention, even if it means proposing now, just to break it off again in the future. he is next to Heidi and Spencer in my book of excuse of human being. these people should be on america's most shameful list. no question about it.
I find it so AMUSING that these people commenting can so fluently trash talk the Palins, like they're fame whor*s or somthing...Im pretty sure the Obamas were recieving just as much plublicity (if not more)...WTH, politicians ARE "celebritys"...whether democrat or republican. And what does ANYONE have against Sarah anyway??? What has she done or said that was controversial??? She is a good and lovely woman that just want the best for her children and her country...Just as Michele Obama is a good and lovely woman that want the best for her country and children. Im sure you people WOULDNT have the same reaction if one of the Obama daughters was caught up in this pregnancy/break-up/engagment drama. I realize this is not current, but she sounds like she has/had a huge fan base from her people in Alaska. Last week, a poll found 86 percent of Alaskans had a favorable view of Sarah Palin, with more than half of those expressing very favorable feelings toward the governor.
