Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon got some unlikely visitors after welcoming twins Moroccan and Monroe on April 30.

"Child Protective Services actually came to me while I was in the hallway and said that they were here to see me because there had been allegations that there was drug and alcohol use during the stay in the hospital," Cannon, 30, told CNN's Piers Morgan on Thursday.

"I was like, 'Well, how would that even be possible? How could the hospital even allow that?'"

Fortunately for the first-time parents, Child Protective Services' visit was all a big misunderstanding.

"It all started when a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness, the dark beer, the yeast improves breastfeeding," Cannon explained. "I don't know if someone heard that, but then they were saying my wife was drinking beer. People will do anything to try to conjure up a story."

"When I spoke to the person from Child Protection Services, they said, 'This is ridiculous, we're going to make sure this isn't the case,'" Cannon recalled. "To even have to deal with that, with my wife in the state that she's in while we're in the hospital, to even have to think about someone possibly wanting to investigate your children...it's sad at the end of the day."

After all, Cannon concluded, "it's really sad when you think about people trying to make a buck off newborn babies."

It's pretty disgusting with the type of stories you hear CPS ignoring such as retarded children lying in bed for years and dying in their feces covered in bed sores that reach down to the bone! I think some stupid CPS officers just wanted a look-see at Mariah...... dickheads!

First, I agree the whole thing is ridiculious, and I hope that something is done with the individual who called them in. Secondly, I am a CPS worker, and some of these threads I'm sorry but I have to defend it. We don't "want" to go into these houses and disturb people. In my county we don't have a choice. When someone, anyone, calls in a report on anyone we have to go to the house. If we don't go to the house and verbally address the concerns with them we're fired, or worse we could go to jail. It's not us that pick and choose what homes to go to and just have nothing better to do on an afternoon and say "oh hey that nice couple, I'm gonna head on over there and screw with them." Legally we have to go out. I always tell people, I agree 100% it's nonsense that the system is the way it is and people can use it for vindictive intent. But, it is what it is. If there is change it has to come from the legislators and not us. 90% of our cases are nonsense and believe me, I would rather be at the real abusers home too.

@Stephanie Green - I have had 3 children in 3 different hospitals and all have offered a champagne dinner for the new parents. They give you a tiny, tiny bottle of champagne that will only serve about 2 sips per person, lol.

idiot it's the yeast that helps increase the milk production not the alcohol which evaporates soon after consumption. the nurse that reported Mariah was fired this whole thing was a scam to get pictures without paying. breastfeeding moms celebrity or not have done that for decades it's hramless the first few days of nursing its colstrum the baby is getting not milk. Mariah should be applauded for attempting to nurse the twins most moms don't nurse out of fear yet she chose to do what was best for her children before taking the easy way out. nobody would've attempted to do this to Natasha richardson when she nursed her sons in the mid 90's. Mariah & Nick should sue for emotional distress

The body is very good at increasing milk supply just by feeding the baby every time he/she is hungry. No one should EVER turn to alchohol (which is dehydrating, for one) to increase milk supply before trying something that won't pass to the baby.

Dark beer (in small amounts) DOES increase your milk supply. Guinness is actually marketed in Ireland for BFing moms. Again, a small amount is not going to do anything to harm the baby.

First off, your Milk doesn't come in for a few days. You are breastfeeding, but it's not milk the baby is drinking. 2, I can't believe a Hospital would even recommend an alcoholic beverage to a breastfeeding Mother when we all know, alcohol can transfer to a baby through breast milk. And 3, CPS needs to actually go out there and help kids who are actually in need of care and protection instead of disrupting the lives of those children and their families who are not in need. Ridiculous :(

What hospital have you been to that serves champagne after the birth of a child??? I have delivered 2 babies in major university teaching hospitals, and also have attended to quite a few deliveries professionally. I can assure you, hospitals will not allow champagne anywhere near a baby. As for the babies being born prematurely, she was due in late April/early May, so how is this a premature birth? Don't get me wrong, I am a huge fan of her music, but I think something does not add up here.

After the birth of a child most hospitals serve champagne. I would like to know the the difference with beer? They are both alcoholic drinks. The article also stated that the nurse suggested Mariah drink a guinness. Also it was a comment that was made, it said nothing about Mariah drinking a guinness. Why do people have to start such vicious rumors? Did a hospital employee trying to make a quick buck? Please leave Mariah and Nick alone. Their babies were born early and had to spend time in a incubator. I would like to give my well wishes and prayers to Nick and Mariah may your babies become healthier. God Bless You.

well in australia some hospitals still offer beer for breastfeeding. it has been proven to help.my mum drank beer in hospital to help with breastfeeding me.

Why should we leave Mariah and nick alone? Have they left us alone? I also think there's much more to the story than they're letting on. That woman is an emotionally imbalanced crackpot. I have a feeling this is only the beginning.

Angelina gave birth in an obscure place so that crazy fans couldn't harm them...when you are in the entertainment field everyone seems to think they own the celebrity and the family...fans are crazy obsessed lunatics who are capable of being extremely dangerous. Mariah and Nick must learn to be more cautious in public locations/hosptials with their newborns

So Child Protection was called in because of a Beer? Ah huh - Sounds fishy to me. Last I heard in the hospital or not, pregnant or not an adult can drink a beer.I'd keep a close eye on this couple anyway. For the babies. I'm sure they have some friends and relatives that party hard to celebrate. Keep them away from your babies.

trying to imagine this happening to Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt... nope cant do it....Wonder why.

Let Mariah and Nick alone, already!!

All alcohol inhibits the let down reflex, impeding breastfeeding too. So very poor advice that she received. Sad day all around for Mariah.

"yes we're here because it has come to our attention that you named a human being Moroccan. We'll need to take the child into foster care and rename him Ben"

SMH, doesnt child protect have better things to do? Go get the child molesters & killers & leave decent people alone! Some had the nerve to show up at my door on mothers day over some bull-ish & I refused to talk to them & I will keep refusing because these losers are always trying to make something out of nothing, they twist your words, and you are at their beck & call. I am not playing that, they can speak to my lawyer if its that serious but their not getting in my home or speaking to me personally over some lie or crap that someone made up so everybody out there, dont get scared, be strong and stand your ground & dont let them disrupt your life over someone else's lies! Mariah should have told them to go F themselves and not have been so cordial. As a parent, we dont owe CPS a da** thing!
