Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley were anxious when adopted daughter Naleigh wasn’t walking at 17 months.

"I think Josh and I started to get like those obnoxious parents that are a little, like, 'What's wrong with her? Why isn't she walking yet? What are we doing wrong?'" Heigl, 31, told UsMagazine.com of her adopted daughter, now 20 months. "Now we're, like, pushing her all day: start walking! But I figured we're probably fine. She'll start walking."

But there perks to having Naleigh -- who underwent open heart surgery as an infant due to a congenital heart defect -- not running around yet.

"[Then] I'll be like, 'Why can't she sit down and play quietly in the corner?'" laughs Heigl.

Her latest milestone: "She is starting to talk a little bit more," Heigl says. "She says Dada all the time. Of course that was her first word... She points at me and says 'Dada' too. She thinks anyone she loves is Dada. I will her to say Mama!"

Another fave phrase: "She goes, 'Oh yeah' all the time.. I think Josh and I do that a lot when we talk about things and she picked it up."

Katherine is great. She's beautiful, talented, and I'm sure she's a great mother and wife.

yeah, um, to the people that wrote rude comments...maybe you missed the part that said the baby underwent open heart surgery? Yeah you try having that done and see how fast you're running around afterwards. Give the girl a break.

Naleigh is walking now, she is a normal kid.. but of course it'd take a while for her to addapt. Before writing mean comments, remember that she was born in another country, had open heart surgery and she was already 10 months when Katie and Josh addopted her. She was moved to a new home, new family, new language. How can you expect a baby to develop like other babys who didnt go through that? Giver her a break.

They should be thrilled their daughter is flourishing after open heart surgery, and if she doesn't walk, she doesn't walk! Be grateful for all you have!

Sorry, but if the kid ain't walking at 20 months, and can only say "dada" she's developmentally delayed.

    She is just OBNOXIOUS, period.

Wouldn't surprise me. She's obnoxious every time she opens her mouth. This is clearly someone who is VERY (i.e., TOO) impressed with herself.

RICHARD: Your comment is so funny & true. Anyway, I am glad to see Naleigh is with a loving & caring family.

With a first child a parent doesn't know what is normal and what isn't. Caring parents do this all the time. Good for this loving Mom and Dad.

Lynn - I guess they feel the need to share when they are at press conferences or being interviewed by the press because it is generally considered polite to answer a question :) Do you think they phone up and say "hi i wanna talk about my daughter today will you publish it"? Erm no.

Cute baby and wonderful parents. There honesty is refreshing. What I love about this couple is they adopted a handicapped child, wish more celebrities would consider this.

Cute baby! I thought the point of development was every baby develops at their own pace. You would think they'd know that. I guess not though.

Why do celebrity moms feel the need to share personal info about their children? Talk to their dr.'s about your concerns and keep quiet-it's personal and non of our business. Boring really.
