Exclusive: Sir Elton John: Baby Fulfills Longtime Dream for the Couple
Sir Elton John, 62, and partner David Furnish, 48, welcomed their son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John on Dec. 25, UsMagazine.com exclusively reported Monday. "For many years we have talked about fulfilling one of our greatest wishes by becoming parents," John tells Us. "And now this wish has been granted to us, we feel so blessed and lucky."

The birth marks the realization of John and Furnish's dream of becoming parents. Last fall, the couple visited an orphanage in the Ukraine and planned to adopt a 14-month-old boy named Lev and his HIV-positive brother Artyom. "David always wanted to adopt a child and I always said 'no' because I am 62 and I think because of the traveling I do and the life I have, maybe it wouldn't be fair for the child," John told reporters. "But having seen Lev today, I would love to adopt him. I don't know how we do that but he has stolen my heart. And he has stolen David's heart and it would be wonderful if we can have a home [together]".
Earlier this year, their petition to adopt was declined by the Ukranian authorities, and Furnish told the BBC that they were "massively gutted" by the rejection. Since then, Furnish and John have worked tirelessly behind the scenes through Ukranian lawyers to find Lev and Artyom a happy home.

Furnish commented: "Although Ukranian law does not permit Elton and I to adopt Lev and Artyom, we are determined to give them the best chance of living a happy and healthy life with a loving Ukranian family. The arrival of our son has done nothing but strengthen our resolve to help these two wonderful children. We are, however, constrained by Ukranian policy and legal procedure, and this is why for the past 12 months we have retained a leading Ukranian law firm to assist us in this process."
After being rejected in their adoption bid, John and Furnish decided to pursue their dream of becoming parents with the help of a surrogate. The couple have told Us that they wish to keep those details private.
Though Zachary is John and Furnish's first child, the five-time Grammy winner and his partner have already had some parenting practice: between them, they have 6 godchildren, including John Lennon's son, Sean; Elizabeth Hurley's son, Damien; and David and Victoria Beckham's sons Brooklyn and Romeo.

Rake Maker - I beg to differ with you but you did refer to him as sexually confused so yes you did refer to his sexuality, and yes as you said before is none of yours or anyone else's business! I think it is a shame that they could not adopt a child already born, especially one who may in the near future require special needs. I do not know and neither does anyone else on here know if they will be good parents, just like none of us know what kind of parents we will be until the time comes and it is trial and error, there really isnt a manual on how to be a parent, oh there are several manuals but the confusion is, which one do we go by? I would much rather see Elton John and his spouse (so-called media wh*res) adopt a child and give it a fighting chance then to see that same child live in the streets with a crack wh*re mother and be beaten up by her "Johns" and not stand a chance. hmmmmmmm which do you think would be better? just saying

So Rake and William, how do you feel about drug addicted fifteen year old mothers? Personally I think children should be with loving parents reguardless of their gender or sexual preference. Rake Maker - is your problem with this couple's sexuality, their wealth or their age? As far as I'm concerned they are an extremely loving couple, happy with each other and financially very comfortable - regardless of whether or not you feel the money was earned in a worthy way. Children are reared in mny unusual circumstances but surely being raised in a household where they want for very little and have supportive and loving parents regardless of their sex is the main thing. Also regarding your comment on his lack of female influence, I am sure the couple will have the means to allow this child to experience many different places and people in it's young lifetime. Thousands of children grow up without the influence of a father and these parents are not condemned. Turn on the TV, there are people out there that see children as a form of currency, a way to blackmail their ex's and benefit from government handouts. This couple have strived to have a child and I'm confident that someone so in the public eye will strive to give that child that has been so desparately wanted the best upbringing they can have.
