Aaron Carter may have beat Shaq, but he missed his big brother’s wedding. The pop star was unable to attend Nick Carter‘s romantic seaside ceremony to Lauren Kitt on Saturday, April 12, due to “technical problems.”

The younger Carter brother, 26, shared a photo of himself in a plane with a frustrated expression. “Really pissed off that I missed my brothers wedding today,” Aaron wrote. “I hope he doesn’t hate me .. I tried to get there… I’m sorry bro @nickcarter#technicalProblems.”

Singer Aaron had signed on to make an appearance in Washington D.C. that same day for the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade — an obligation he had agreed to before Nick had set his wedding date. Attempting to rush back to the West Coast in time for the nuptials, Carter missed out after mechanical issues left his flight grounded.

Although Aaron was unable to make it, the newlywed couple certainly felt the love from friends and other family members — including some of Nick’s fellow Backstreet Boys. Bandmates AJ McLean, Howie Dorough and Brian Littrell watched their longtime pal exchange vows with Kitt, a fitness expert and actress. McLean’s 17-month-old daughter Ava took part in the ceremony as the flower girl and according to an eyewitness, “She was cute as a button.”

“We’re so, so proud of him,” McLean told Us Weekly of the 34-year-old groom at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards Sunday, April 13. “He’s been through hell and back, as we all have once in our life here and there. And you know, we’re all family. We’re all brothers.”

Nick’s biological brother, despite missing the special ceremony, will have a chance to relive the wedding, as it was taped for an upcoming made-for-TV special.

Big brother Nick doesn’t seem to mind too much, either. On Monday, he posted an Instagram pic, standing in front of a jet with Kitt as they held up their left ring fingers. “To all the haters that thought it wouldn’t last…I LOVE Mrs Carter!” Nick wrote. “#ilovemywife #ilovebeinghusband.”
