So not elementary, my dear! Benedict Cumberbatch stripped down for his ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, which was shared by the Moto Neurone Disease Association on Friday, Aug. 22. In the two-minute video, the Sherlock actor gets doused not only with just one bucket of freezing cold water, but five icy hits.
"I've been nominated to take the Ice Bucket Challenge by Tom Hiddleston," Cumberbatch, 38, told fans. "Please text and donate generously and… bring a bucket."
In other ice-dumping rounds, Cumberbatch gets hit while wearing a suit, hanging out in the shower, and sitting on his motorcycle. The elegant British actor nominated producer Harvey Weinstein, Australian pop star Kylie Minogue, and race car driver Lewis Hamilton to complete the challenge.
As of Friday, Aug. 22, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has raised more than $53.3 million in donations compared to the $2.2 million it raised during the same time frame in 2013. The donations to The ALS Association have poured in from previously existing, and, a whopping 1.1 million new donors.
Other fresh celebrities to join the cause include Idina Menzel who completed it after her Broadway show, If/Then, on Thursday, Aug. 21. "I challenge our producer David Stone, one of our beloved friends Anthony Rapp," and "EVERYONE at the stage door" standing outside the studio of NYC's Richard Rodgers Theatre.
X-Men star, Sir Patrick Stewart, also completed the task in the most-classy manner — pouring himself an ice-cold drink, instead.
Tom Hanks also carried out the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Friday, along with Jessica Chastain.
