Idina Menzel
About
Born in Queens, N.Y. Idina Menzel is a former Broadway performer who played Maureen in Rent and Elphaba in Wicked. It was her role as Elphaba that she won her Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She is now a singer and actress who most recently appeared on Glee as Vocal Adrenaline coach Shelby Corcoran.
Menzel made her Broadway debut in 1996 and made her way to film and television acting in the early 2000s. She’s had roles in Enchanted, Private Practice, Glee, and plays the voice of Elsa in the Disney movie Frozen. It was for the film Frozen that she won a Billboard Music Award.
In 2003, Menzel married her Rent costar Taye Diggs after they’d been dating for seven years. In 2009, the couple welcomed their first child, son Walker Nathaniel Diggs, into the world. Menzel and Diggs announced their separation in 2013 after 10 years of marriage. In August 2015 Menzel began dating actor Aaron Lohr. Menzel announced their engagement and they married in 2017.
