Just a day after Brittany Murphy’s sudden death, her husband is opening up. "My world was destroyed yesterday," Simon Monjack told Access Hollywood Monday.

Monjack says that Sunday morning started out as a "regular day" until Sharon, his wife's mother, found Murphy, 32, unconscious in the bathroom. "Sharon went into the bathroom because she had been in there a long time. Her mom screamed for me and I ran. Then called 911," he said.

Monjack downplayed speculation that his wife was seriously ill with "flu like symptoms," explaining, "She had laryngitis...She had been tired at the end of the year. She had made a couple of movies."

He also was quick to slam talk that Murphy was self-destructive, or that he was a controlling, bad influence on her. "I don't know why anyone would think that...She found love. We found love. Brittany didn't get to where Brittany was with anyone controlling her… Brittany was Brittany."

The British screenwriter was touched by the Tweeter tribute written Sunday by Murphy's ex-boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher (whom he did not know personally). "I loved what Ashton wrote on Twitter. It was comforting to me...I couldn't have said it better."

Gone too soon: remember other stars we've lost

Kutcher wrote, "2day the world lost a little piece of sunshine. My deepest condolences go out 2 Brittany’s family, her husband, & her amazing mother Sharon...see you on the other side kid."

An autopsy of Murphy's body was completed Monday; the full results and cause of death will be deferred as additional toxicology, neurological and histiological tests are performed. Results may released in four to six weeks.

I really think that brittany's family is going through alot right now and my prayers go out to them, i don't think that coming on here and saying hurtful things about any of them makes any of them feel better, if you can't say something nice keep your mouth shut

If Brittany's husband had a statement written and read by someone else, he would have been accused of "covering up". If he was dressed in a suit and a looked great, some would say he did't care. Brittany loved him and he loved her, why is that so hard to understand?

  • December 22, 2009 - 12:46pm Sherry

When your loved one dies, yes you want to know what caused their death. But the thought of an autopsy and what is done to the person during the process is horrible.

still shocked at her death. the LEGIT meds she was on, being sick and diabetic, and underweight (from pics and IMO) was a combination that potentially, tragically ended a wonderful actress. as for her husband, good lord people leave the man alone. i agree with a previous comment, if he kept quiet people would say he's guilty of something, if he talks people burn him at the stake for it...he can't win. let the man alone, he just lost his wife. he may look like a druggie, we don't know, but they seemed happy, i wish peace for him, brittany's family and for her soul.

he kinda looks like a coke head if you notice his eyes and the sweat pouring from his face...maybe he was influencing her habits...?

Everybody grieves different & some ppl have to talk about their pain. I feel so bad for her mother, Sharon, being that was her only child & no grandchild. I lost my only son, my youngest, wks after he turned 19, than his first & only girlfriend lost their baby. I pray she has faith & religion in her life b/c that's truly what kept our family strong.

he seems kind of sleazy to me, but that is only my opinion he might have been great..i liked her movies, my condolences to her family especially her mother and for "her" dad saying she should not have died like this, i think it should have been i lost my daughter who i had not seen in quite awhile..

  • December 22, 2009 - 8:44am whatever

to RC 7:39...my guess is, is that "i'm not rajeeb's girl" is saying something just to get her comment talked about, which apparently worked...usually when you don't like someone you give reasons as to why, she just decided to spout off a bunch of nasty things to say about someone...she's probably just some little 13 yr old girl that thinks she's big bad and tough and probably terrorizes other girls at her middle school! i'm sure she's very hated!

People never seem to amaze me. You're pissed because he gave an interview after his wifes death. But had he kept quiet you would have been on her swearing that he must have had something to do with her passing away so suddenly. People make up your minds!
