Carrie Underwood is blown away by Tennessee lawmakers. The 30-year-old country singer and Nashville, Tenn. resident took to Twitter on Thursday, Apr. 18 to share her outrage over the passing of the so-called Ag Gag bill, and her comments were not well-received by State Rep. Andy Holt.
"Shame on TN lawmakers for passing the Ag Gag bill," Underwood tweeted. "If Gov. Bill Haslam signs this, he needs to expect me at his front door. Who's with me?"
In an interview with WSMV on April 19, Holt responded to Underwood's threat, arguing, "I would say that if Carrie Underwood will stick to singing, I'll stick to lawmaking."
"I should stick to singing?" the "Blown Away" singer fired back on Twitter. "Wow . . . sorry, I'm just a tax paying citizen concerned for the safety of my family."
The controversial Ag Gag bill requires that anyone recording images of animal abuse must submit unedited footage to law enforcement authorities within 48 hours. But animal rights activists, like Underwood, argue that the deadline is too short and causes people to be afraid to tell on others.
"I think what we need to do is make sure and recognize that if animals are being abused it needs to come to justice, and it needs to come to justice quickly," Holt argued to WSMV. "No matter what anybody tells you. That's the intention of this legislation."
