Comedian Chevy Chase has been admitted to the Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center in Minnesota, his rep confirmed to Us Weekly on Monday, September 5.
The former Saturday Night Live star checked himself in for treatment of an alcohol-related issue that his rep called a "tune-up," adding that the National Lampoon's Vacation actor "wants to be the best that he can be."
Chase, who hosted the Academy Awards twice and starred in the big-screen comedies Fletch and Foul Play, previously sought treatment for addiction to prescription painkillers in 1986.
His rep told the New York Times that he had checked into the Betty Ford Clinic and his addiction was related to "chronic and long-term back problems" he suffered after injuring himself doing pratfalls and stunts on Saturday Night Live. (A founding member of the Not Ready for Prime Time Players, he left the late-night comedy series midway through its second season in 1976.)
"I never shot things up or freebased. I was pretty low-level when it came to drug abuse," he said in a 2010 interview with Esquire. "I checked myself into the Betty Ford Clinic after my nose started to hurt."
The 72-year-old, who most recently starred on TV in the NBC sitcom Community, is set to appear in the films Dog Years, with Burt Reynolds and Ariel Winter, and The Christmas Apprentice.
Celebs including Chris Farley, Liza Minnelli and Robin Williams previously sought treatment at Hazelden.
