"I have just returned from visiting my granddaughter Bobbi Kristina in the hospital and while she is no longer in a medically induced coma she has a tracheotomy and according to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive," Houston told Us via a statement on Monday, April 20. "Meeting with the doctors and understanding that she can live in this condition for a lifetime truly saddens me.  We can only trust in God for a miracle at this time," she concluded.  "Keep us in your prayers."

Cissy’s comments come after Bobbi’s dad Bobby Brown clarified (via his lawyer) his comments he made about her status over the weekend. After telling the crowd during a performance that “Bobbi is awake,” Bobby’s lawyer tells Us Weekly that Bobbi has improved and “will live a long life” but the “quality of her life will not be known for years to come.”

Bobbi Kristina was hospitalized after being found facedown and unresponsive in a bathtub on Jan. 31 by her boyfriend — who is currently seeking treatment in rehab — Nick Gordon. Her case remains under criminal investigation.
