Brittany Murphy weighed 115 lbs. when she was found dead Dec. 20 at age 32, Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office Chief Investigator Craig Harvey tells UsMagazine.com.

The 5' 3" actress -- who died of pneumonia "exacerbated" by multiple drug intoxication -- "wasn't the healthiest person in the world," Harvey tells Us.

Despite her emaciated appearance, Murphy's husband Simon Monjack has denied reports that the actress suffered from an eating disorder.

He also slammed rumors that Murphy suffered from prescription drug problems.

A number of prescription drugs were found on her nightstand, but Monjack has said Murphy was only taking the painkiller Vicoprofen and Fluoxetine, an antidepressant to treat her menstrual cramps.

I loved Brittney Murphey. She was one of the most down to earth actresses ever. A good girl with incredible talent. I liked her starting with clueless, And she took care of her mother, a sure sign of a good person.

I think she looked good. Thin yes, but disgustingly skinny-sick no. Her weight plus or minus 10lbs was fine too. There are sometimes health issues that just aren't obvious and young people don't think anything like this can happen to them so they don't run to the doctor for every little thing. It's a tragedy, plain and simple. People should stop blaming her weight or lifestyle for her death.

oh yeah and at my height and weight I sure as hell don't look like a skeleton! brittany simply had a smaller frame. the average american fattie should try and not take a piss out of every skinny woman and call her anorexic booo

  • February 13, 2010 - 9:47am cris

I don't think she was underweight she looks skinny here but maybe it's because before every red carpet appearance she would try to lose a few pounds and then go back to her normal weight afterwards I'm taller than her 5'5" and weigh less - 108 lbs, but I can put on 5 lbs very easily and then get rid of it they were negligent all 3 of them I mean you can't breathe and you don't go to the doctor?? also people exaggerate with all these underweight-drug addict theories...and you shouldn't forget how bad the media was treating her when she was alive!!!

she looks more like 105, than 115. I am 5,5 and weight 110, I am skinny, but she looks even skinnier than me. I think on this picture she is about 100-105 pounds.

The coroner did not specify that Brittany's weight was a factor in her death. It was the pneumonia that killed her.

I'm a registered dietitian, and as far as what has been commented..it's correct. At 5'3", 115# +/- 10% is the ideal body weight for that height. However, more realistically, is looking at usual body weight, how fast weight may have been lost, and eating/exercise behaviors associated with weight loss. I'm 5'1, my ideal body weight is 105 +/- 10%. My usual body weight is 120. When I've been at 107-110#, I become ill easily, my immune system plummets. Stress hormones come into play. My point is, it isn't weight alone to be taken into consideration, there are many other factors predisposing one to illness. I agree, too much emphasis is placed on numbers, as far as weight in this society. She was a beautiful individual, and if disordered eating was a factor, let's hope the media takes a message?

I weigh 118, and I'm 5'5" and MALE. I'm thin, but I eat a ton and I don't look emaciated. Either this supposed weight of hers is wrong or she was a totally healthy weight for her height and her death was not at all related to being too thin.

So in other words, she is a NORMAL weight? You know that society has taken the "prey on thin women and make them feel ugly in revenge for making the rest of us feel fat" trend/fad too far when society starts calling NORMAL weight women... "too thin" and "grossly thin". All I heard about her in gossip forums is that she is....... too thin. She is just right for her height. She is 5'3 not 6'3. I wonder how many other thin women are being misjudged as being "too thin" when in fact they are the perfect weight for their frame and height?

The point is, I find it hard to believe she was 115 pounds. I'm questioning whether that's true. She looks much thinner than that. I'm 5'6" and 115 and I look heavier than she does in that picture.

  • February 05, 2010 - 6:57am Shelly T

Despite popular beliefs, 115 lbs is not an anorexic weight for 5'3. The Max weight the military allows for is 133. Optimal weight for 5'3 is 107 to 140.

  • February 05, 2010 - 6:47am Mandy

I just cannot believe she weighed 115 lbs. I am much taller than her & weigh around 125 lbs & I have never looked as skinny as she did in photos. I think someone is lying about her weight. Also a lot of women are slightly anemic. We have lower iron than men do. That is a fact.

  • February 05, 2010 - 5:47am Jay

I weigh 105 lbs. at 5'1" tall, and I'm perfect weight for my height. If I were 115 lbs., I'd look fat. At 5'3", 115 lbs is a perfect weight for her. Most people are overweight, so those of us that aren't get picked on by all the jealous fatties. I eat like a pig, but I eat healthy organic, veggies, fruits, fish, lean meats, NO sodas, no candy, no junk, no fast food, no fried; we cook at home, we play after dinner with the kids, hike, bike, frisbee, skate. I work 40 hrs a week, but still manage all this. NO excuses to being unhealthy. It's a choice, people. Brittany would be alive if she had gone to the doctor abnd gotten checked out, take care of yourself, health is nothing to mess with. So sad and so unneccessary for her to die.

well believe it, she's worm food

  • February 05, 2010 - 12:08am I wonder...

I met Brittany Murphy last summer ,saw her on several occasions, stood by her , had several conversations with her. I am flabergasted that they are saying she weighed 115lbs. I am small also, only a little shorter. I weigh 106 and she was much thinner than myself and I could not have squeezed into her jeans and I am size 2. The last pictures of her,she was noticably thinner. I just can't believe it.

  • February 04, 2010 - 11:08pm marone

    dude, she married artie lange???

  • February 04, 2010 - 10:51pm LJ

I am 5'4" and when I weighed 98lbs, I looked like her. Don't believe she was over 100lbs unless it was all muscle.

  • February 04, 2010 - 8:34pm Manda B

How muscular she was also needs to be considered. If she had good muscle tone, she could appear to weigh less but actually weigh more than she looked. Muscle is leaner than fat giving way for someone to have more muscle and weigh more, but still look thinner.

She was at a healthy weight for her height. I am also among the women who happen to be a few inches taller and only slightly heavier than her and I don't have an eating disorder.I think she was just sick. There are many serious illnesses that can cause anemia and iron deficiency besides an eating disorder. If you have a serious underlying illness then something as simple as the flu can turn into pneumonia. Mixing prescriptions and otc medicines doesn't exactly help either. Many people don't know that otc medicines can kill which is sad. Anorexia doesn't seem to be her prob considering she is at a healthy weight for her height.

  • February 04, 2010 - 7:44pm Lisa

I'm 5'5 and 110 lbs. (I'm very healthy and no eating disorder - just that way all my life). She looks much skinnier than 5'3 115 lbs frame. I'm not saying the coroner's statement is wrong. She would look a little heavier than all the pictures we've seen if she actually weighed 115 lbs.
