Is Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" a Madonna Rip Off?

Lady Gaga's new single "Born This Way" has been out for less than a day, and it's already garnering fantastic praise, explosive criticism and scathing comparisons to Madonna.

Twitter critics say that the song bears an all too striking resemblance to Madonna's 1989 hit "Express Yourself" -- and the two song titles were major trending topics on Twitter Friday. Wrote one Twitter user: "Is it just me or does #bornthisway remind you of an 80s @Madonna song? i liked it the first time, when it was called #expressyourself."

It wouldn't be the first time Gaga's been compared to Madonna: Gaga has repeatedly channeled Madonna's provocative looks--including her trademark cone bras and underwear-as-outerwear. Gaga paid homage to the Material Girl in her video for "Alejandro," channeling both "Like a Prayer" and "Vogue" videos. And legendary music producer Quincy Jones even told UsMagazine.com that he thinks Gaga is "Madonna Jr."

But Elton John's got Gaga's back: The singer told Rolling Stone that he believes the song will become "a legendary anthem" that will "obliterate 'I Will Survive.' I can't think of how huge it's going to be."

The whole gaga is a Madonna´s ripp off. What i find incredible is this obviuos copy & paste of Express Yourself as her new single.... I prefer the original srry.
It did remind me of Madonna's Express Yourself. Also, it was a song by a singer named Valentino called I Was Born This Way that had a similar title and theme. It's a much older song.

You should have put that picture of "2 hearts" by Kylie Minogue next to her. The song, despite being copied, is mediocre at best... and very retro. Elton John is bias, and like all a lot of the Gaga fans, he is obviously blind to her faults, and that does not help with her arrogance-issues. I get that it's all LGBT empowering, but as a member of that group I can't help but feel that she is a bit exploitive. I think I'll keep Jill Sobule as my anthem.
Even if Gaga DID copy Madonna, at least she can make a kick-a^.^ inspiring song.

Hummm, I never liked Madoona in the 80"s-90'S and I think LG is even more ridiculous. I feel that the music that has come out since the late 9o's sucks.... Very few artists with original talent. i'm talking about not using someone else's songs as a remix or updated version. all the techno is not considered music....Grammy's arent even worth watching anymore
every time i see lady gaga, from ripped stockings to her meat dress, i just think "oh bunny, what happened to you as a kid" LOL it's not original, everything under the sun has been done, she just looks sad and trying so very hard to seem like she's not trying at all :(

Uh - MADONNA ripped off the Staple Singers' 'Respect Yourself' for her song. If you listen to the choruses of each, you will see that Madge herself is far from original...
Gaga has an amazing voice which will always be superior to Madonna's voice.
God, i HATE lady gaga! I use to like her but she has gotten more and more annoying and just ... BAD. This isnt the first time she has ripped someone off, not just Madonna. She is the most UNoriginal person ... artist, if you even dare to call her that.
