Rep: Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal "Have Not Split"

Contrary to reports elsewhere Sunday, Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have not broken up. A rep for Witherspoon, 33, tells Usmagazine.com: "It's not true. They have not split."

The actress met Gyllenhaal, 28, while filming 2007's Rendition, and the pair stepped out together, confirming their relationship in summer 2008.

Witherspoon divorced actor Ryan Phillippe in 2007 after eight years together; they have two children: Ava, 10, and Deacon, 6. After two years together, Gyllenhaal and girlfriend Kirsten Dunst called it quits in 2004.

It drives me nuts the way the same old story is repeated over and over so that it's taken as truth. If Reese met Jake on the set of Rendition then she never knew her now ex husband's workout buddy and, one can then assume, friend. Ryan and Jake made a movie together with Jake's dad in 1998.
Reese and Jake never dated, they just signed the fauxmance contract prepared by their shared manager Evelyn O'Neill.
Revise history much? They were dating way back in early 2007. What's the matter you don't want to make it sound like she was dating while she was married? Does Reese actually own US Weekly? Just wondering.

Why is it that when so many couples first start dating they will never confirm it and play coy when asked about their romantic life but when there are rumors of a break up then they go to the trouble of making sure to squash those rumors.
Well, they can't break up if they were never dating. All of H'wood knows Jake and Reese are in a PR arranged situation that benefits both. It will "end" when it serves them both to create another scenario.

I don't know if it's true or not but I do find it interesting that here we two stars who are generally very press-shy when it comes to discussing their private lives are suddenly having their reps deny rumors of their break-up. Seems to me they should be doing what they usually do - ignore it. Unless there is some truth to it and they wish to keep it under wrap until they officailly announce it themselves. How many times stars have denied their break-ups when the press start making rumors only to turn out to be true about a month or two later? We'll see.
people magazine isn't always right! they are paid for by some stars like brad and angelina who wrote in a contract that they couldn't print negative press about them when they bought one the baby's picture. Star might print a lot of trash but most of the time it has a base to start from! Hope they haven't broken up they make a cute couple!

People mag won't come up with this kind of stories about stars. There must be some truth to it. If people report the story with wrong source they will retract it .
