Her heart will go on — but The View might not. Jenny McCarthy and her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, stopped by Howard Stern's SiriusXM show on Monday, March 30, and dished about the comedienne's short-lived gig on Barbara Walters' long-running ABC show, which is down a host — again — following Rosie O'Donnell's recent departure.
"They might try one more year and then I think the Titanic might go down," McCarthy, 42, quipped of The View, which has had a revolving door of panelists in its 18 seasons on the air. (The former Singled Out star was co-host No. 11; she left after just one season in 2014, along with veteran host Sherri Shepherd, who'd been on the program since season 11.)
McCarthy's hubby, New Kids on the Block singer Wahlberg, then spoke up on his wife's behalf, telling Stern that View producers actually broached the idea of her returning to the show.
"She's very gracious about The View, and I will say, I told her the day that she left, I said, 'They're gonna ask you back within six months,'" he recalled. "And she won't say it, but they did. Not officially, but they did."
McCarthy played down the invitation but admitted she'd been approached. "One of the producers called and said, would I ever consider it? And I said, 'No, thank you,'" she shared. "Because I couldn't be me! You know — you called it from the start. I couldn't be myself."
That's why she's so appreciative of her new job, as the host of her own show, Dirty, Sexy, Funny, on SiriusXM radio. "I couldn't be happier here, Howard," she raved. "I've never been more happy with a job in my entire life…I get to be myself.”
