They wanted a baby on board! JetBlue did the impossible and made passengers on a six-hour flight from New York’s JFK Airport to Long Beach, California, love the crying babies seated near them.
The airline pulled a Mother’s Day stunt by promising travelers 25 percent off a future JetBlue trip every time a baby cried on the plane — meaning, four flights equaled a totally free round-trip ticket — and documented the experience with a camera crew.
In the JetBlue video titled “FlyBabies,” several moms explain the stress of flying with babies — from keeping them occupied on the airplane to preparing a diaper bag full of supplies. “People definitely give you some dirty looks,” one woman said. “I’m most nervous about her having a total meltdown and having everyone around us really wishing we weren’t on the plane.”
The clip shows another mom squeezing into the middle seat with her small child as the passengers on either side exchange nervous glances. Once the plane takes off, the flight attendant makes an announcement about the possible discount, and the passengers’ attitudes immediately change for the better.
Soon, everyone on board is clapping when they hear a baby start wailing. With a few little ones on the special flight, the passengers made it to a free JetBlue ticket before the plane touched down on the West Coast. Not only did they get a nice reward, but also a sweet reminder to show some compassion to parents traveling with kids.
