Johnny Depp and Amber Heard Split: A Timeline of Their Relationship

What a ride! After tying the knot in February 2015, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard have officially ended their marriage.

As Us Weekly previously reported, Heard, 30, filed for divorce from the Pirates of the Caribbean star, 52, on Monday, May 23, citing irreconcilable differences and requesting spousal support. Prior to the demise of their relationship, though, the notoriously private pair shared some special moments as a couple — and some awkward ones, too! Let Us recap the rise and fall of Depp and Heard’s whirlwind romance.

Sparks Fly on the Set of The Rum Diary, 2009

Depp and Heard first met in 2009, when filming began for their movie The Rum Diary, in which the two played each other’s love interests. At the time, Depp was in a committed relationship with his partner of 14 years, Vanessa Paradis, the mother of his two children, daughter Lily-Rose, 16, and John Christopher, 14. Meanwhile, Heard was dating photographer Tasya van Ree.

Two years later, the film was released. “I got along with him, splendidly,” Heard told Collider in 2011. “He’s charming and wonderful to work with. He’s a dream.”

Things Turn Romantic, 2012

A year after The Rum Diary hit theaters and Depp called it quits with Paradis, 43, things turned romantic between the actor and Heard, who is 22 years his junior.

“They are 100 percent dating," a source told Us at the time. "He treats her really well." And how: An insider confirmed a previous report that Depp bought Heard a horse. #Relationshipgoals, right?

Heard solidified her relationship status with Depp by joining him on the press tour for his 2013 movie The Lone Ranger. The then-lovebirds frequently held hands and engaged in PDA while Depp promoted the Disney project.

The intimate ceremony took place in a small cove on Depp’s private island in the Bahamas. At the time, a source told Us that the wedding was on the “smaller side.” Depp’s kids were in attendance as were celebrity guests including Mandy Moore, Steven Tyler and Marilyn Manson.

Drama Down Under, Summer 2015

Depp and Heard made some pretty strange headlines last year after Australian government officials accused the two of illegally smuggling their Yorkshire terrier dogs, Pistol and Boo, into the country on a private plane.

The agricultural authority gave Depp an ultimatum of 72 hours: to either take the dogs home to L.A., or to hand them over to be euthanized. "If we start letting movie stars — even though they’ve been the sexiest man alive twice — to come into our nation [and break the laws], then why don’t we just break the laws for everybody?" Australian Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce told ABC. "It's time that Pistol and Boo buggered off back to the United States."

While the pups made it home safe and sound, Heard was summoned on Wednesday, July 15, to an Australia court on two counts of illegally importing her pets, she was also charged on one count of producing an unspecified false document.

Heard Gets Maternal, November 2015

In a cover story interview for Marie Claire, Heard gushed about being able to be a second mother figure for Depp’s children Lily-Rose and John Christopher.

As for past reports of trouble in paradise? "I try not to react to the horrible misrepresentation of our lives, but it is strange, and hard,” the blonde beauty responded.

The Associated Press reported that in exchange for her guilty plea, two illegal-importation charges were dropped. If she had been convicted, the Danish Girl actress could have spent up to a year in jail.

Not long after, the couple participated in a bizarre 42-second apology video, touting the importance of declaring all animals upon entering the country. In addition to urging others to respect Australia's biosecurity laws, Depp dryly described Australians as “both warm and direct,” adding: “If you disrespect Australian law, they will tell you firmly."
