Julia Roberts has surfaced. The August: Osage County actress stepped out for the first time on Friday since the tragic death of her half-sister Nancy Motes.
Roberts, 45, was photographed walking to her car in Los Angeles on Feb. 21. The mom of three donned black pants, a matching zip-up jacket and sneakers. She also kept a low-profile as she wore sunglasses and kept her locks swept up in a messy bun.
The Oscar winner's half-sister Motes was found dead of an apparent drug overdose at an L.A. residence on Feb. 9. A suicide note was discovered at the scene, along with nonprescription and prescription drugs.
The actress and Motes' relationship appeared to be tense before Motes' death. Last October, Motes wrote a cryptic tweet stating she couldn't wait "to belong to another family." But on Feb. 13, her fiance John Dilbeck said in a statement that Motes "loved her family."
Roberts canceled appearances at both the Academy Awards' Nominees Luncheon and Jimmy Kimmel Live on Feb. 10 shortly after the news. She's next expected to attend the 86th Academy Awards on Sunday, March 2, where she's nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in August: Osage County.
