A doting dad! Justin Timberlake chatted with the Today show’s Keir Simmons at the Cannes film festival on Wednesday, May 12, and the pop star opened up about parenting his son, Silas, with wife Jessica Biel, new music and more.
The “Mirrors” singer, 35, talked about whether he will try to protect the toddler from Hollywood and everything that comes along with it. “He’s 13 months old right now, but you think about the next five years and the next five years after that, and you think about the fact that he just got here,” Timberlake said. “He hasn’t made any choices. He chooses eggs or bananas.”
Although he and Biel, 34, keep their personal life private, he recognizes it may not be that way by the time Silas is grown up. “You think a lot about the lives that me and my wife lead, but I wonder what privacy’s going to mean in 20 years,” he mused. “Those are the questions that enter my mind, for sure, but I think that’s something that you don’t have control over.”
While he’s not sure what the future will bring, he did reveal the No. 1 thing he tries to do for his only son. “The best thing I can do is to try every day to give your kid perspective so they understand what it means and what it doesn’t mean,” he said of his lifestyle.
The Friends With Benefits star is at the French filmfest debuting his new animated flick, Trolls, in which he voices one of the main characters alongside Anna Kendrick. He said that Silas definitely plays into his decision to pursue certain projects. “It changes everything,” he said of being a father. “Hopefully, one day when he sees it, he’ll be like, ‘Yeah, that’s my dad!’” he added of Trolls.
One more thing to look forward to from the “SexyBack” crooner: new music! “I’m exploring making another album,” he said. “Honestly, it was because of [making Trolls], getting back into the studio to work on music for this.” His new tune for the Trolls soundtrack, “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” dropped last Friday, May 6, and it was his first new music in three years.
Before he jetted to the South of France, the musician was spending time with his family on Mother’s Day and posted a sweet tribute to Biel, where he called her an “amazing mom and wife.”
The A-list couple tied the knot in an October 2012 ceremony in Italy. Us Weekly broke the news of the actress’ pregnancy in late 2014, and Silas was born in April 2015.
