It's been nearly a year since her divorce from Russell Brand was finalized, and Katy Perry is now getting more comfortable talking about it. The 28-year-old singer addressed the "elephant in the room" at the ASCAP "I Create Music" Expo in Hollywood on Thursday, April 18. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Perry was asked about her tracks "Wide Awake" and "Part of Me," which were added to the deluxe edition of her Teenage Dream album, and seemed to hint at her failed marriage to Brand.
"It's a very tiny elephant . . . It's like a little Tchotchke now," she said, referring to her divorce. "The Big D — you can say it."
The Rock of Ages actor, 37, filed for divorce in December 2011 after 14 months of marriage. The divorce was finalized in July 2012.
Since then, Perry has had an on-again, off-again romance with John Mayer. In an interview on Howard Stern's Sirius XM radio show in February, Brand was asked about how he feels about his ex-wife dating the "Waiting on the World to Change" singer.
"Doesn't she know that he's a worse womanizer than you?" Stern asked.
"Worse or better, depending on how you view it," Brand joked.
Perry and Mayer, 35, started dating in summer 2012, briefly called it quits that August and then reconciled the next month. But multiple sources confirmed to Us Weekly in March that Perry and Mayer split for a second time.
In an interview with Ellen DeGeneres earlier this month, Mayer declined to comment on their split. "It was a very private relationship going in," he said. "It was a private relationship during and it's a private relationship still."
