If this whole music thing doesn't work out, it sounds like Keith Urban has a pretty solid plan B to fall back on: a career in international diplomacy.
His commitment to neutrality in the face of conflict was on full display during Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey's American Idol audition brouhaha in Charlotte, NC Tuesday.
"I was the UN," the singer, 44, jokingly boasted to Extra at the New York Film Festival premiere of The Paperboy, which stars his wife, Nicole Kidman. (He was "Switzerland," Kidman, 45, interjected.)
Urban's take on Carey and Minaj's intense quarrel, during which Minaj cursed out the "It's Like That" singer? That's just what happens when passionate, talented people get together.
"I love it, I gotta say," he explained. "I love working with passionate people. I love artists. Everyone just sort of expressing themselves. It's a very alive and very invigorating work environment. A lot of passion."
The Australia-born country crooner also joked that people would be surprised to learn who the panel's biggest diva is.
"Randy [Jackson] is the craziest," he said. "So, you know, unpredictable."
