Kim Kardashian mourned the loss of her friend, former New Orleans Saints player Will Smith, who was fatally shot in a road rage incident this past weekend.
"My heart breaks for my sweet friend Rockie," the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, 35, tweeted on Sunday, April 10, referring to Smith's wife, Raquel, who was wounded in the incident. "I'm deeply saddened by your loss."
Kardashian followed up with a tweet remembering the NFL player, who she likely got to know while she was dating ex-boyfriend Reggie Bush from 2009 to 2010. (Former USC superstar Bush played for the Saints from 2006 to 2010.)
"Will, you were an angel to your family on earth and you will continue to be in the life after," Kardashian continued on Sunday. "May God bless you! Sending so many prayers to her and her family!!! May the Lord surround her and her children with love and protection during this devastating time."
NFL player Smith, who helped lead the New Orleans Saints to victory in 2009's Super Bowl XLIV, was killed this past Saturday, April 9, after a confrontation with a fellow driver who rear-ended his car in New Orleans. According to local police, the suspect, Cardell Hayes, "exchanged words" following the collision. Then Hayes pulled out a gun and shot the football pro several times, authorities told Nola.com.
A spokesperson for the New Orleans Police Department told the outlet that Raquel was also shot twice in the right leg during the confrontation. Smith was pronounced dead on the scene, while his wife was transported immediately to the hospital. No further information was available.
Hayes has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Smith was 34.
