Not a sweet, sweet fantasy after all. Mariah Carey revealed in a new interview that watching footage of herself trying on her wedding dress for her upcoming reality series, Mariah’s World, has brought up an odd mix of feelings.
“All of those moments are bittersweet, but you just have to focus on whatever you’re focusing on and keep it moving,” she told Entertainment Tonight of watching footage of herself planning her nixed wedding to ex-fiancé James Packer. In some scenes, the pop icon can be seen trying on her wedding dress.
The focal point of the show itself isn’t just her relationship, she explained in the interview posted online Friday, November 25. “The stories [are] interesting because it shows the side of the entertainment world that’s not just the celebrity [aspect],” Carey said. “It’s real [and] I don’t feel like it feels like a scripted kind of reality [show] whatsoever.”
As previously reported, Carey and the 49-year-old Australian billionaire called off their lavish wedding at the end of September following an ill-fated trip to Mykonos, Greece.
At a September 14 outing, the mogul looked agitated as Carey stopped to take photos with fans at a restaurant, according to an eyewitness. “It was a circus,” the source told Us. “She was taking photos with people. James was rolling his eyes. He looked irate. Every time she walked off, he asked, ‘What is she doing now?’”
Another source told Us that Packer called off their engagement while they were aboard his yacht in Greece, planning their vows. “It was like Jekyll and Hyde,” a Carey pal told Us. “Suddenly he’s like, ‘I don’t think I can do this.’”
The pair kept an icy silence after their split, with Carey reuniting with her ex-husband, Nick Cannon, to celebrate both Halloween and Thanksgiving with their twins, 5-year-old Moroccan and Monroe.
She and Cannon, 36, split in August 2014 after six years of marriage.
