Michelle Money hopes to someday reunite with the son she placed for adoption as a teen, she reveals exclusively to Us Weekly. The Bachelor alum recently opened up about getting pregnant when she was 15 years old in a video for the skincare brand PMD.
"I am very hopeful that one day I will get the chance to reconnect with my son," Money, 35, tells Us. "I know I will never take the place of his adoptive parents, but I would absolutely love to have some place in his life if he will have me!"
The hairstylist, who shares daughter Brielle, 11, with ex-husband Ryan Money, decided to do a semi-open adoption at the time. She continues to keep the identity of her son's father private, but only has good things to say about how well he handled the situation.
"We are not in touch anymore, but he was an incredibly supportive and loving boyfriend at the time," Money says. "We picked the parents, and we were able to receive letters and pictures for the first few years of his life."
In the PMD video, Money shared footage of herself cradling the newborn during her hospital stay. She revealed that the experience — and the years that followed — weighed heavily on her.
"I was really consumed with trying to prove myself to everyone and caring a lot about what people thought of me. I lost myself in that for a long time really trying to overcompensate from this mistake that I made," she said in the clip. "It's taken a lot for me to get here. It doesn't happen overnight where you get to where you can feel so confident in the decisions you've made in life and the trials that you've gone through."
In fact, Money didn't feel comfortable opening up about that chapter in her life for a long time. She didn't even tell her daughter, Brielle, until recently.
"My son is now 19 years old ,and I just told Brielle about him a few months ago. She was really sweet about it all and helped me feel so much more comfortable talking about it. I really owe it to her. She helped me feel so good about it all and encouraged me to talk openly about it," she tells Us. "I have my daughter who is the love of my life and am hopeful that at some point I will have my son in my life as well!"
