Mindy Kaling Reveals the Unexpected Reason Why She Won’t Have One-Night Stands

Single, but maybe not so ready to mingle? Mindy Kaling appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Wednesday, March 11, and dished on the perils of her dating life.

"I am single," the Mindy Project star, 35, told host Ellen DeGeneres. "I am dating, but one of the challenges I've noticed is that I'm not very much like my character, who is very wild, and I think that when I go on dates there's this expectation that I'm going to have like 11 martinis and like pass out and spend the night really soon."

"I think people get a little disappointed because my true self is like I could never do that… have a one-night stand," continued Kaling. "I have my medications that I have to take at night. I'm like, 'I have to be at my house and like do my flossing.' I have all that stuff."

It's not just her floss that Kaling requires before bed. The funnywoman launched into a diatribe on her nightly medications, which she assured DeGeneres were not narcotics, "yet."

"I'm now kind of a version of my mom where I really like my little pills in their little pillbox," Kaling revealed. "I once had to go on a trip and I had to bring all my medications and I put them in, you know, they’re for the elderly? When I came back from the trip, I was like, 'Oh I kind of like this.' So I have my little like Monday through Sunday. So these are the kind of sexy stories that guys really like to hear when we date."

While Kaling's enticing stories about pillboxes and her inability to knock back rows of drinks may not have paid off for her, her Mindy Project character Mindy Lahiri is seeing great success in love. The doctor she plays is in a serious relationship and expecting her first child with boyfriend Danny Castellano (Chris Messina).

"For the story line it’s been very good, for me personally it was probably one of the worst decisions," Kaling told DeGeneres of playing a pregnant woman. "I have to wear a little pregnancy suit, which is fine because I wear various spanks and girdles. So that was fine."

The fake belly may not have posed a problem for Kaling, but she revealed that story line was not without consequences.

"I eat like I’m pregnant when I’m not actually pregnant so it’s been a disaster for my health," she dished. "My clothes are all bigger so I feel really skinny. Like, 'Am I too skinny? Should I be eating more? Like am I healthy?' So I’ve been eating like a woman… but then at the end of the night, I take my pregnancy [suit] off and I’m like, 'Oh, my clothes don't fit that I came into work with.' So… I’m excited to give birth on the show… Or maybe I’ll write in another pregnancy cause I like this lifestyle."
