Despite poor reviews, New Moon, the second installment in the Twilight series, has set box office history, breaking all records for midnight runs with an estimated $26.3 million.

The last film to hold the title? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which made $22.2 million this summer.

Besides New Moon's impressive debut, Twilight was re-released on 2,057 theaters nationwide Thursday night and managed to gross $1.3 million.

New Moon is still expected to earn more than $85 million during its first weekend (it has run up the biggest advance sales of any film in history).

TOO MUCH ABOUT THE WOLVES THAT PART WAS BORING. THE ONLY PARTS I LIKED WAS THE BEGINNING AND THE END. SHOULD HAVE HAD MORE BELLA AND EDWARD, AND THE CULLENS. I BOUGHT TWILIGHT, WON'T BE BUYING NEW MOON. WAS REALLY DISAPPOINTED. WAY TO MUCH ABOUT THE WOLVES, BORING, YUK

I am in my 60s and I LOVED IT! Read the 4 books at least six times and loved Twilight but New Moon was even better. Can't wait to see Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. You don't have to be a teen to appreciate all this series has to offer! Oh, and Rob has me wishing I was 20 again!

I was at a midnight showing for New Moon and I am a 50 year old female. The basis for this series is undying romantic love and the sacrifice we make for those we love. Love is simple but the trials we face in pursuing true love can be difficult whether it is due to vampires, religion, race or gender. I see this series as a delightful love story where sex comes after marriage. Movies that are interesting and keep high moral standards are rare. I look forward to the next two movies.

People don't appreciate good film anymore. twlight making all this money just proves people have become a bunch of simple minded movie goers who don't care about quality film.

If the claim that 90% of the movie attendees where 30 or over, that would be a suprise, otherwise the intended and the showing audiences for the movie are teen girls and young women.

A Christine check your facts. Little kids and Grandparents dont read this crap. The demographics for this series are very small. Harry Potter has a very big demographic.

Wow, this really does prove once and for all that the majority of American teenagers are a lost cause. This movie was really just about a bunch of overexposed and talentless nobodies, who really did more than enough justice to the original bull that they took the script from. The critics have already spoken, hopefully America will soon follow and dump this crap.

I am not surprised that New Moon was breaking the record because there are so many fans for this series. The fans range in age from little kids to grandparents so that helps. When I went this morning, I would guess 90% of the people in the theatre were 30+ years old. Only maybe 10% were kids and young adults. It will be interesting to see how much money New Moon brings in by the time it is taken out of the theatre in a couple months.

Anyone ever thought these movies are breaking records because it costs so darn much to see a movie these days? I don't have anything against New Moon, I will go see it myself. I am just trying to make a point.
