How’s this for a shout-out? Little Mix’s Perrie Edwards opened up in the girl group’s new book, Our World, about her split from ex-fiancé Zayn Malik, saying that she felt “homeless” and couldn’t stop sobbing after he called off their engagement in August 2015.

“After I split with my partner, out of the blue, I had nowhere to go, which was incredibly stressful,” the “Shout Out to My Ex” singer, 23, writes. “For a while I had no idea what to do.”

Edwards, who lived with Malik, 23, in his multimillion-dollar North London home, goes on to say that her bandmates — Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall — told her she could stay with any of them after the breakup, “but they didn’t really have room.”

According to the X Factor U.K. alum, she didn’t take up the girls’ offers because she didn’t want to be an emotional burden as she was still reeling from the breakup.

“I thought about renting but I’ve got dogs and cats, so that was no good. At the time we were promoting ‘Black Magic,’ doing a lot of traveling, and while I was in America, things really hit me and I panicked. I realized I was homeless,” she explains in Our World. “I was crying every day, dreading coming back.”

Edwards writes that when she could no longer take the anxiety of not having a place to call home in England, she called her mother, Debbie, who worked with the pop star’s management team to help find something temporary.

“I told her I was stressed because I didn’t know what I should do about where to live once I got back to England,” Edwards shares. “She arranged … for me to stay in [Modest! Management owner Richard Griffiths’] guest cottage for as long as I needed, until I got on my feet again. Thank God for him. I put all my stuff in storage, took my dogs and more or less lived out of a suitcase for a good month and a half.”

In another section of Little Mix’s joint memoir, the British songstress opens up about Malik’s decision to end their relationship via text.

“It was horrible, the worst time of my life. A four-year relationship, two-year engagement ended by a simple text message. Just like that,” she says. “Even though things with my career were going really well, it was incredibly difficult for me. … On the surface I was happy, but inside I felt broken.”

However, the former One Direction member previously shut down rumors that he dumped Edwards via text during a November 2015 interview with The Fader magazine.

“I have more respect for Perrie than to end anything over text message,” he told the publication. “I love her a lot, and I always will, and I would never end our relationship over four years like that. She knows that, I know that and the public should know that as well. I don’t want to explain why or what I did. I just want the public to know I didn’t do that.”

While Malik has since moved on with model Gigi Hadid, Edwards has assured fans that she’s content living the single life. “Right now I’m enjoying being single and I know I don’t need anyone,” she writes in Our World. “I’ve got plenty of time and I’m not in any hurry, but at the same time it would be nice to meet someone. Hopefully someone will come along eventually.”
