Janet Jackson took her baby bump for a little escapade in London on Tuesday, September 27.
The first-time mom-to-be, married to billionaire businessman Wissam Al Mana, covered up her burgeoning belly with a black sweater while on a 45-minute shopping trip at baby furniture store Back in Action. The iconic singer, 50, also donned a headband, scarf, sweatpants and sneakers.
Since announcing her pregnancy this past spring, Jackson has kept a low profile, even canceling her Unbreakable World Tour. “My husband and I are planning our family, so I’m going to have to delay the tour,” she told fans in an April video. “Please, if you can, try and understand that it’s important that I do this now. I have to rest up, doctor’s orders!”
Because of the Grammy winner’s age, her pregnancy is considered high-risk, a source previously told Us that Jackson’s doctors put her on bed rest. But, according to Chicago-based ob-gyn Jessica Shepherd, who has not treated Jackson, the singer should still get in her steps.
“We’ve generally modified bed rest to mean more light duty and decreased activity,” Shepherd explains to Us. “It’s commonly used when we want to alleviate some pregnancy complications. Yes, we don’t want you to move around a lot, but we have to find a balance where you’re not just sitting still all the time. Then you definitely risk having a blood clot, which can be catastrophic for both mom and baby.”
Still, the extra concern has not been a burden for Jackson. As previously reported, “Janet is superexcited,” a source told Us. “She’s doing great. She’s so happy and her husband is so happy. Janet feels really strong and she’s just so excited for the baby to come. She feels like this is one of the best things ever to happen to her!”
