Jon Gosselin Countersues TLC for $5 Million

Jon Gosselin has officially filed a $5 million lawsuit against TLC, claiming the network damaged his reputation and career.
The suit -- filed in District Court in Rockville, Md., where TLC's parent company, Discovery Communications, is based -- claims that TLC would not let Gosselin, 32, host parties or make public appearances for fees.
It also alleges that TLC contacted various media outlets and persuaded them not to hire him for anything.
Usmagazine.com in a statement. "They had a cadre of lawyers so they had a one-sided agreement."
Gosselin also claims TLC still owes him $175,000 for episodes of TLC's Jon and Kate Plus 8 that have already aired.

According to his contract (signed Apr. 28, 2008), he is to receive $22,500 for each half-hour episode and $40,000 for each one-hour special, the lawsuit claims.
Gosselin is due in court Dec. 14.

On Oct. 15, TLC filed a lawsuit against Gosselin, claiming he breached his contract by making paid and unpaid TV appearances without the network's permission.

"The network has been trying privately and patiently for months to get Jon to honor the contract he signed and to comply with his obligations relating to public appearances and statements," a TLC spokesperson said in a statement."Those efforts have been unsuccessful."
Gosselin's attorney called the suit "weak, feeble and baseless."

[Section 7.1 (d) Application forms shall be in such form as shall be provided by the Department of Labor and Industry. Such forms shall be signed by both the employer of the minor and the parent or guardian...] If permits were required and TLC didn't sign permits, they were breaking the law by commencing production -- regardless of the contract.
Pennsylvania Child Labor Law Section 17. (a)All employers shall require the minor to have a valid employment certificate or transferable work permit prior to the commencement of employment. If I'm not mistaken, documentaries are exempt. But how can TLC call it a documentary, and in the next breath say Jon Gosselin has behaved unPROFESSIONALly? Tsk. Foolish Jon-haters, I have news for you: FEELINGS can be neither right nor wrong. If you can't reason, you really ought to save your comments for discussions relating to flowers or cute babies rather than law.

Kate's not a "type A personality". She suffers from Bipolar Personality Disorder. And she's the extrovert; she pursued Jon. And he fell for it/her. She tried to manipulate him into being what she considers a normal person. But what's normal is his wanting to be free of her.
TLC--slavery was abolished a long time ago, wasn't it? Sure, Jon's a doofus and Kate's a money/fame hungry shrew--but you should have the right to take your kids off of a show during a bitter divorce. That's the problem with these so-called "reality" show contracts--they basically get you to sign your life away--as if the network owns you. Kate wants the show to continue because she loves the money, fame, and lifestyle, too. God forbid she has to work as a nurse now that the kids are school-age. They BOTH need to shut up and raise their children. By the way, Jon is only suing TLC because they are suing him (they are trying to bully him into shutting up and letting his kid's lives be filmed). It's a legal strategy on his part. I'm sure it will be settled out of court.
If there was a problem with the contract - then you should not have signed it....what a stupid idiot....the more I see him the more I understand Kate and why she is the way she is.....he needs to find a closet, tape his mouth shut, and hide until the kids are 18.
Listen I have a lot more sympathy for Kate now that I see what an idiot he is. As a type A personality, when things start to fall apart you tend to control a lot more than necessary....she is better off without this fool.
it is not TLC that is stopping him from making a living - it is him!! it is his own fault he is so materialistic it is unreal - he could go back to his 9-5 job, just like he did for years and years - until TLC came along & offered him the world and he took it!!!! that is right - who wouldn't? but the ride is over and he needs to get back to life - Jon & Kate plus the 8 are not special, are not interesting (anymore) they are just like any other bickering couple with kids - lets go a month with out reporting on them - the world will still turn without them!!! I promise
You can describe Kate Gosselin with one word -- demanding, hedonistic, hostile, exploitative, short attention span, irritable, and grandiose -- or you can describe her with many -- bipolar. She excels at manipulating others' emotions for fun and profit yet she can't get a five-year-old to do what she wants without hitting her.
JON GOSSELIN WAS RIGHT TO STOP THAT SHOW ! Although he stopped it for totally selfish reasons; (they were slowly firing him), after all the controversy about his and wife, Kate's behavior, it was only a matter of time before the children would be mentally affected by all the publicity! So, I hope he gets Child Protective Svcs's help against this TLC lawsuit. And the wife, Kate only wants that crazy show to continue because it keeps her from having to go out and work to take care of her family, just as it does for husband, Jon. But they should both work without their kids being put up on a viewing block to bring in a living for the both of them.

Jon is so selfish. Get a divorce and set Kate and the kids free. Jon is indulging himself while moving on with his life but is preventing Kate from being able to move on with her life. WHY? He's going to try to squeeze all the money he can out of Kate. How evil! How low of 'The Insider' to be giving him a platform for him to tear down his family. I used to be a fan of "The Insider" but am now disgusted.

What a loser! Get a job, Jon, and become a real man. Dump the trash you run around with and get yourself some counseling. Those children are truly better off without Jon. Let's hope the judge sees Jon for what he is. . . that is the judge for the TLC lawsuit and the one that deals with the divorce and frees Kate.
