Haters gonna hate. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have been mocked for naming their newborn baby girl North West, but Kim's brother Rob, for one, is a fan of the unusual moniker -- and of the couple's decision to stick to their guns. Phoning in to Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM radio show on Wednesday, June 26, the proud uncle defended his sister's controversial choice and said he thinks the name is "cool."
"I told Kim and Kanye this: I'm like, 'Yo, people are always going to talk, whether it's good or bad. There's always going to be the haters, but do what you guys feel,'" he revealed to Seacrest, who produces the family's reality show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. "Like, you know everyone's going to say, 'Oh, you're coming up with some weird celebrity, crazy name.' You know how it is."
"[But] North West, it sounds cool!" he added. "And North is the highest point, so it has a lot of meaning to it."
(Incidentally, Rob isn't North's only champion. Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner defended the name this week, too, during a June 25 appearance on The View. "I love the name North," she said. "I'm pro-North, absolutely. The way [Kim] explained it to me, North means highest power, and North is their highest point together. I thought that was really sweet.")
Rob also talked with Seacrest about his plans for a gift for his sister and his new niece. "When it comes to babies, I like to give the person all their time with their significant other [to] let them enjoy their moment. I'm happy the baby is healthy and my sister is healthy," he explained.
As for an actual present? "I'm looking for, like, a giant animal to get North," he said. "The baby came a month early. [She's] so small, she needs a big stuffed animal."
Rob hinted that he would like to have kids of his own someday but said he wants sister Khloe to have a baby first.
"There might [already] be a [little] Rob somewhere, but I'm not sure," he joked. "Honestly, I have not been checking my emails."
