Happy and healthy! It wasn't always smooth sailing for this couple, but Rosie O'Donnell and wife Michelle Rounds are certainly stronger and "closer" after experiencing massive health scares back in 2012.
"It totally brought us closer," O'Donnell, 51, said in a Monday, Feb. 10 interview with Marlo Thomas on Mondays With Marlo regarding their struggles that year. "We were scheduled to have a really big wedding on August 17 out in Long Island, right near where I grew up. We had a lot of people invited and she got sick on Mother's Day in May."
Rounds, whom O'Donnell lovingly refers to as "Mish," was diagnosed with Desmoid tumors — a rare, cancer-like disease. "We had to postpone the wedding," O'Donnell recalled to Thomas on Monday of their original star-studded nuptials planned for that summer.
Instead, the two exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony: "We got married in our apartment on our own, just the two of us with the justice of the peace," the TV personality revealed.
Then another health scare hit: While running errands in August 2012, O'Donnell suffered a heart attack, which she later shared in a blog post with fans. "I became nauseous, my skin was clammy," she wrote recalling the heart attack. "I googled 'Women's heart attack symptoms.' I had many of them. But really? — I thought — naaaa."
Luckily, both O'Donnell and her wife got through that turbulent time period. Now starring on ABC Family's new show The Fosters, O'Donnell told Thomas: "Although we've only been together for three years, it's felt like thirty because so much has happened. It's brought us so much closer."
