Russell Brand is opening up about his marriage to Katy Perry. In an interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show on Monday, Oct. 13, the comedian, who was promoting his new book Revolution, said he "loved" being married to the "Roar" songstress.
"I really enjoyed it," Brand said when asked about his 14-month marriage to the American Music Award nominee. "Katy Perry is an amazing person," he gushed.
"What happened was after you get married, like anyone who's been married or come out of a relationship, you obviously have a lot of expectations," Brand added of his state following their 2010 nuptials. "And if those expectations don't work out, then it's probably time to grow a big beard and walk around in pajamas. That's my advice."
Perry, for her part, has been vocal about their marriage, too. After admitting that the song "By the Grace of God" was inspired by their split, the singer revealed to Rolling Stone that she learned the importance of self-love through their breakup.
"Now I know — first and foremost, self-love, and then give love away," she shared. "Back then it was mostly just me giving love away with no self-love. I went through my ‘return of Saturn,' is what they call it."
After divorcing Brand, Perry went on to date John Mayer and DJ Diplo.
