What about happy wife, happy life? Former Bachelor Sean Lowe, like the rest of Bachelor Nation, watched Kaitlyn Bristowe give her final rose to Shawn Booth during The Bachelorette Season 11 finale on Monday, July 27. But instead of just tweeting his congratulations, the happily married star wrote an entire blog in their honor, offering five rules to live by for a blissful relationship.
First up, Lowe encouraged Bristowe, 30, and her personal trainer hunk, 28, to commit outside the smoke and mirrors. “This is the most important piece of advice I know of. If you truly want to spend the rest of your lives together, you must commit to loving your partner no matter the circumstances,” he wrote on his personal site on July 28. “Commit to living in the same city, commit to building a healthy relationship, commit to sticking together through hard times, and commit to showing your partner how much you love them each and every day.”
Lowe, 31, has taken his own advice since proposing to Catherine Giudici on Season 17 of The Bachelor. After marrying on live TV in January 2014, the couple settled in Dallas, Texas. They recently gave a sneak peek into their cozy life in a new episode of Celebrity Wife Swap. During the episode, it was suggested that Giudici might feel trapped in their relationship. Which brings up his second piece of advice: Work.
“Every relationship takes work, especially relationships formed on TV! I remember the few months between filming and the last episode of my season when Catherine and I had to keep our relationship a secret- everything was so exciting. We were in love and we couldn’t imagine having hard times or experiencing any issues that might endanger the relationship,” he wrote. “That naiveté wore off pretty quickly once we were thrust into the real world. Your relationship is going to run into issues both big and small. It’s imperative that you find a way to work through them.”
The insurance broker also hopes that Bristowe and Booth won’t “believe the hype” during their 15 minutes of fame. After all, the couple are currently making the publicity rounds about their engagement.
“Despite the attention you receive, the talk shows you’re on, or the money you’re offered, you’re still just a normal person,” Lowe shared. “Don’t let the ‘fame’ stuff go to your head. I’ve heard firsthand from a couple of different bachelors how being in the spotlight was detrimental to their relationship.”
Lowe also gave advice just to Bristowe, telling her that it’s her turn to pursue Booth. “Kaitlyn’s been in the driver’s seat for most of their time together and that can easily make the relationship feel one sided, especially considering the massive amount of attention that will be directed towards her and not Shawn,” Lowe noted. “Kaitlyn should make sure Shawn knows how much she would fight for his affection if the roles were reversed.”
And last but not least? Lowe, who stayed celibate for six years and was known as the “Virgin Bachelor,” hopes the couple “pursue God” and lean on their faith.
