Monjack Seeking $1,000 Donations to Attend Brittany Murphy Event

Want to attend a event honoring the late Brittany Murphy?

It'll cost you.

On Thursday, Murphy's husband Simon Monjack is hosting a launch party to celebrate the Brittany Murphy Foundation, which is dedicated to arts education for children. (Monjack claims he started the foundation with $1 million of his own money.)

Look back on Brittany Murphy's career highs and lows

A source tells UsMagazine.com he is suggesting dollar amounts of $1,000 per individual and $10,000 from corporations to attend the event, which takes place at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills.

Says a source, "Everyone thinks it's very tacky that he is making it so much about money."

Monjack has yet to comment.

Need a laugh? Mathew Bright's 1996 "Freeway" It has Brittany in it, a great cast and is excellent. Now let her soul rest in peace, leave her family BE.

You people really think you know what and who you are talking about, do ya? It's so absolument pathétique...*yawn* Nominations are out, and I got so much to do this month I leave yall consipracy suckers to hopelessly scratch your abscessed brains. BTW, Haiti was not a comparison, rather an illustration to explain the "timing" factor in fundraising. Seeya...*whistles into the sunset*

Hey Get-a-Grip, Are you one of the bloodsucking FM on Mum's side? That 1 million Monjack put up is prob the ransom money Britt paid, (which he probably staged). She cared nothing about money, even said so on Letterman. Interpol is who he had better be worried about. Still say he was a control freak, ask the director's. You don't get a 501(C)status overnight either. So like I said anyone donating to this dinner will be aiding his future criminal defense fund. 3 or more weeks for the tox report not this week like they both thought. She caught them, any bets? And if you call those sic photos you took of Britt Art that you linked to the Foundation you are one FK'd up individual! All the signs point to Controller/handler. BTW her talent didn't come from the Edison NJ side either, they just profited from it, like Conjack!

get a grip I would really listen to your name....no one wants to listen to a know it all...or likes to think they are. Do you know Simon or Brittanys mother....I doubt it!!! This has nothing to do with the charity but with Simon he's a major creep and is only looking for money! Suing a major production company for Brittany's death come on!!! If that doesnt spell scumbag than I don't know what does. BTW: what happened in Haiti isn't the same thing, you can't even compare.

I can see wanting to start a fundraiser/event for Brittany, but to charge so much? doesn't sound right.

    He seems like a scumbag.

The first thing I thought of when I saw the poster was that the red spatters look like blood, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.. so all other issues aside, that's not such a great subconscious message to be sending.

No, it's totally tacky. Read the invite, take a look at what appears first. Her mother is inviting people to celebrate her life, and ON THE SAME INVITE, her husband is inviting people to attend the launch of the Foundation. And toxicology reports are not even in yet. These two seem to be looking out for themselves bigtime, panicking at the thought of no meal ticket. It takes time to establish a charity, but not a "charity event". And Haiti is not the same thing at all. (That was the dumbest thing on this thread of comments, non?). I still think that maybe she was onto him and tried to leave him before she died.

Did George Clooney wait some time till the dust of earthquake Haiti settle to run a fundraiser? No. Fundraisers need the timing to be successful, that's the fact. The tackiest thing I saw was Mel Freakson in that telathon right when he is trying to stage a comeback in films [now that is a real moronic arse who could care less about dying Haitians, Jews, or his own wife]. Simon needs the timing if he wants to push this org. and is doing this now also as a way to grieve over Brit's death. Instead of staying locked up in the house wanting to kill himself for losing her he is getting out and using his hurt in a good, altruistic way. I commend him for having the strength. Also, FYI, these Hollywood charity events used to charge between $400.00 US and up [there have always been charities asking way more than a grand for the ticket, if you don't already know...] way back like, 15 years ago. I have not been to one in the last year or so, but the sum seems up-to-date for Hollywood standards as of now. He is not throwing a fundraiser for for people who live from paycheck to paycheck. He wants for the rich and afluent to be understanding and help him and Sharon start something Brittany did unofficially, with her own contributions and appearances. Get over it people. A thousand dollars is tip money for many who eat at Spago, Masa, French Laundry, Urasawa, L'Espalier and such. Corporations are used to donate in the hundreds of thousands. You people are soooooo not in check. The wealthy need tax brakes thus donating large sums of money to charity, and when Brittany's horrible tragic death becomes old news it will be of no use to start a foundation n her behalf. Unfortunately, the time is now. She was talking about doing this before she died, but, alas, she could not make it, just like she was not able to have children [like she wanted SO MUCH!]. RIP lil angel.

He is totally trying to milk her death for all that it is worth. This is just tacky! I think it is cool to start an organization in memory of someone that you love, but this seems to be just to get attention for himself. I used to work for a nonprofit - you can't just say "Oh, I am going to start a foundation" and ask people for money. It is a business and takes a lot more than a launch party. Geez, he seems very seedy!

  • February 02, 2010 - 10:26pm guest

All fundraisers that benefit foundations charge a lot. Umm, that's how they raise money for their foundations.

Word on the fly is it will be another 3 wks or more for Tox report. I think he was counting on the 4th for results. Or Maybe he is grabbing what he can for their future criminal defense. Interpol will get him if its shady. Wait, Listen, & Watch!

  • February 02, 2010 - 8:16pm vicky

I do agree that he should wait until the results come back. Who knows how long that will take. If this is for a fundraiser I get it but seeking a thousand dollars to attend? That smells suspcious right there. It's ridicoulos to give that much to attend in my opinon and I hope her mother does realize that.

  • February 02, 2010 - 7:56pm Alyssa

I dont think he is right in the head. I hear him talk and I cant imagine what poor Brittany was going through. Hes a psycho, if he knows so much about his late wife, why isnt he allowed to attend or do family members have to pay. That sounds a little odd

  • February 02, 2010 - 7:31pm Sissi

That guy is straight up CREEPY. Do not get good vibes from him at all. I think he's a user and an opportunist. Anyone read the quote from Jamie Pressly saying that she was friends w/ Brittny basically until she married and he took her away from everyone. That says everything
