When Kirstie Alley revealed in an Entertainment Tonight clip that she has lost 100 pounds since being on Dancing with the Stars and is down to a size 4, Tim Gunn raised a perfectly groomed, silver eyebrow.

In an interview with radio personality Steve Kramer on Tampa's 98.7 FM That Guy" Kramer show, the Project Runway star shed some light on the actress' size claim saying, "There is a phenomenon out there right now that I call the lying deceptive shell game of vanity sizing. In fact a 4 is really a 6 or an 8."
The chief creative director for Liz Claiborne explained his theory, which was based on an experiment he did at Parsons.
"We took a size 8 dress from 1980 one from 1990 and one from 2000 and compared them -- the difference between them was two and a half inches in the waist alone!" said Gunn.

As for Alley's true size, the fashion guru guesses that she's between a size 8 and a 10.
"But she looks fabulous," he added. "People are too size conscious."
Regardless of Gunn's comments, Alley seems to be in a good place.
"I feel like I'm back in my element," the 60-year-old actress said in her ET interview. "I honestly didn't even realize what I looked like."

On Tuesday, Alley strutted her banging body on the Zang Toi catwalk in NYC. Clad in an elegant-yet-dramatic royal blue, rhinestone-adorned gown, she wowed the audience as she closed her designer pal's Spring 2012 show.

Tell Us What You Think
35women's sizes are so arbitrary; guys sizes are so much easier to deal with. and european sizes are diff from american sizes, making it all the more confusing. that being said, kirstie looks great! hopefully she can keep it off.
He's absolutely right! Clothing manufacturers changed the size gauge. A 6 was a 10, a 4 was an 8, and so on. Tricky business -- to make women think they wear a smaller size AND BUY MORE CLOTHING. He's also right to say that size doe not matter. I love my Tim Gunn. He's usually right, and a totally class act..
SHE LOOKS FABULOUS..PERIOD
SHe is not a size 4 I can tell by looking..but I am a woman who has lost close to 100 myself...I wear a 2 in dresses and 4 in shorts...although my blue jeans capris are 2's I have a small torso but not skinny arms and legs....size is important to me..because muscle weighs more than fat...so I am happy to say I am a 2 and not a 16-18 which is what I was....Kirstie looks really good but more like an 8..perhaps when someone puts a size out there ..there will always be people to say oh no you are not...what does it matter..the key is keeping it off and feeling good about yourself..alot of haters out there when it comes to WOMAN AND LOSING WEIGHT...IMHO
She is not a size 4 ..I can tell by looking but who cares??? she looks great to me..I have lost over 100 lbs my self..I wear a 4 in somethings and a 2 in others but People look at me and I know they are thinking you are not a size 2...I go by size because MUSCLE weighs more than fat...it is all how are body is shaped....I have a small torso..not skinny arms and not skinny legs..but all my dresses are 2's....shorts between 2 and 4 but then the waist has too much room in a four...a size is a size is a size..evryone hads an opinion....depending on the person standing in front of you and what their motive is they may say you look larger than the size you say your are ...then I say look at the tag..lot of haters when you loose weight...WILL POWER..i have worked hard....the key is keeping it off...
Someone did this experient with a pair of jeans. My friend MKV always says, don't worry about the size on the label, shoot even tear it out. As long as the clothes fit you and look good, that is what matters.
I didn't really think she was a size 4 but, who cares?! If I can look half as good at 60, I'll be thrilled...she looks AWESOME!
oh, btw, I don't think her size really matters as I adore her, thick or thin. But it does show one how vanity sizing is so confusing. There are no standard measurements in the garment industry (at least not when I worked in in).
I agree with Nicole Erickson. She's looks like a size 10. I'm a fashion design instructor and I teach fitting and have a trained eye for sizes. You can look at someone and come very close to their accurate size when you do it for a living on a daily basis. No way is she a real for. I'm a size 8-10 and I have squeezed into a 6 but I don't run around saying I am a size 6, although it's sooooo tempting. I have done comparisons and have found up to a 5 inch difference in waist measurements for a size 6. Yes 5 entire inches! Unbelievable.
SIZE 4 MY BIG FAT ARSE!!!!!
More like a size 8......I remember when I was a size 2....sure miss those days.
Let her say what she wants becuase the way clothes are sized she probably wears a lot of size 4 and Tim Gunn what business is it of yours anyway?
"People are too size conscious"??? Well duh..it's because people like you, Tim, that argue about it and tell us/her what size she REALLY is! She looks amazing, and I bet she feels amazing! Size 4 or 10, it doesn't matter.
She looks great, but I don't think anyone believes she's a size 4.
Looks good to me too.
*they would all be different waist measurements*
You can buy a pair of jeans in the same size from every clothing store, JCPenney, Dillards, Target, Vanity, etc and they would all be different sizes. Heck the other day I tried on a pair of size 9 jeans at JCP and they were too tight..tried on another pair of size 9 jeans from the same brand just different leg cut and they were too loose! And the pictures we see on here are different than what people look like in real life. Eva Longoria for instance is like 5'2 I believe but you couldnt tell that from pictures we see. For Tim Gunn to say 'oh were too number conscious' but then call out Kirstie saying she's wrong about her size is kind of hypocritical. This isnt the 1st time he's ran his mouth about women and their bodies. He needs to keep his comments to himself. Kirstie looks amazing! And if she says she's in a size 4 then who cares?! Good for her!
I agree with Tim Gunn
It doesn't matter what size she is..she is looking real good.
@nicole erickson, just because you worked in a clothing store, doesn't mean you can eye up everyone's size just by looking at them. everyone's body is different and fits in clothes differently. i highly doubt she's a size 4, however, with all the judgemental comments on here, no wonder she feels the need to make herself sound skinny. and for those saying she's no smaller than a size 12, i think that's a little drastic. but like you all say, she shouldn't care and neither should any of you. she should be proud that she lost the weight and that she looks and feels better.
