Tim Gunn

Tim Gunn is a fashion consultant, author and television personality best known as the longtime mentor and host of Project Runway and co-host of Making the Cut. Gunn spent his childhood in Washington, D.C. He attended the Corcoran College of Art and Design at George Washington University, where he earned a BFA in sculpture in 1976. After graduation, he worked at the school before joining Parsons School of Design in New York as a faculty member in 1982.

Gunn spent nearly 25 years at Parsons, eventually becoming chair of the fashion design department in 2000. He joined Project Runway when the series premiered in 2004 and became known for his signature phrase, “Make it work.” He later served as chief creative officer at Liz Claiborne and hosted Bravo’s Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style and Lifetime’s Under the Gunn.

Gunn and Heidi Klum won the 2013 Emmy Award for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program for Project Runway. They later reunited as hosts and executive producers of the fashion competition show Making the Cut. Gunn has also written several books, including Tim Gunn: A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style (2007) and The Natty Professor (2015). He has also lent voice to Disney Jr.’s Sofia the First as Baileywick.

Gunn identifies as gay and has remained open about his sexuality. He has not publicly disclosed any relationships.
