Marc Bouwer president Paul Margolin told Women's Wear Daily on Tuesday, Sept. 23, that his brand lent Goldstein 12 dresses, including a white gown which Keys wore to her husband Swizz Beatz' "Coming to America"-themed birthday party at Capitale in NYC on Sept. 11.

The Bouwer exec claimed that Goldstein, who works for Margaret Maldonado Agency, agreed to credit the designer in an Instagram post from Keys' account — which has more than 2.7 million followers. No post was made during the party, nor was there any mention of Bouwer on Keys' Instagram the following day.

Instead, the singer shared an affectionate photo with her husband from his birthday party on Sept. 13. "You make me happier than I have ever been in my LIFE!!! May this year continue to be full of all the things that matter!!" Keys wrote. "I wish you only happiness and meaning and I promise to be the one that brings it to you everyday!!! Happy Birthday my love @therealswizzz!!!! The most magnificent man I know!! To many many many more!!!"

Margolin inquired about the delay in their agreement, but was later told by an MMA executive that there would be no Instagram post with Bouwer's name mentioned. "This is a very reputable agency," Margolin told WWD. "It's no joke."

Her husband also took to social media to express his appreciation for the themed party. "My wife is awesome," he wrote alongside a picture of Keys in the gown. "Thx my love for the best Bday party everrrrrrrrrerr."

Furthermore, Goldstein asked if Keys could keep the dress. Margolin suggested she pay $5,000 for the item, which typically costs $10,000. Later, an executive at MMA called to thank Margolin for the item, saying Keys appreciated it. (There was no clarification whether the MMA exec called to thank Margolin for allowing Keys to keep or borrow the dress.) When Margolin asked about the original agreement, the MMA executive said Bouwer needed to sign a legal contract since Keys already had ties with Givenchy.

"This is how it works. This is the common code. This is universal for stylists," Margolin told WWD. "As far as I’m concerned Jocelyn is acting as an agent when she comes in here for a dress. I feel whatever she says should stick. If you say in advance you’re going to do it, you need to do it."
