Lawyer for Roman Polanski's Rape Victim: "Leave Her Alone"

Monday – October 26, 2009 – 6:28pm

Samantha Geimer, the woman who was drugged and raped by Roman Polanski at age 13 in 1977, doesn't want the director to go to jail -- she wants to be left alone.

An attorney for Geimer explained to a California appeals court Friday Oct. 23 that his client has suffered health problems and job woes since Polanski was arrested in Switzerland in late September, the Associated Press reports today.

Urging the Second District Court of Appeals to dismiss the criminal case against Polanski, Attorney Lawrence Silver said that Geimer has received nearly 500 media queries (including requests from Larry King and Oprah Winfrey) and is being "stalked by journalists."

"The pursuit has caused her to have health-related issues," the filing said. "The pursuit has caused her performance at her job to be interfered with and has caused the understandable displeasure of her employer and the real possibility that Samantha could lose her job."

The final plea: "Leave her alone."

Geimer (who revealed her identity long ago) met the director in 1977 as a 13 year-old model at a photo shoot; he was accused of raping her after giving her champagne and part of a Quaalude pill. Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse, and was sent to prison for a 90-day psychiatric evaluation. Released after 42 days in 1978, Polanski fled the country the night before additional sentencing was scheduled.

Apprehended by Swiss police Sept. 26, Polanski, 76 -- who has lived in France for the past 30 years -- faces possible extradition to the United States for his 1977 crime.

An Oscar winner (for The Pianist), the director is married to French actress Emanuelle Seigner, and has two children.

Why don't we ask all child rapists and child sodomite's if they want to leave the country for 20 years. If they say yes we can give them a one way ticket! All of you Polanski supporters are crazy as he is. We are supposed to be a country of laws.

Hence the reason why California is so morally depleted. He plead guilty he should serve the time. _______________________ Screw you! There are morally depleted people everywhere. How about all the catholic priests that molest boys, some 18 yr old was arrested in Arkansas for RAPING HIS 8 DAY old child, the list goes on OUTSIDE of California. Ignorant to just generalize a state. Overall, the whole US is morally bankrupt.

I think a judge is going to ignore her request because they are going to see it as I did when I read it. I thought- all these years and Polanski is STILL destroying her life. A judge isn't going to let justice slide just because the victim finds the media coverage unpleasant. Plus, when he is back here and serving his sentence, the media attention will die down. As for her employer firing her because of the media attention- doubt they would do that unless they want a really big lawsuit. No one is going to fire a child rape victim unless they are fools.

Perv Polanski needs to rot in jail, and the victim just needs to shut up and let him get the justice he deserves. Just because he paid you off doesn't make it okay. He's a pedophile, and they to lock him up and throw away the key. He's had too extravagant a life which he didn't deserve. Shame on Hollywood for backing this pig.

If she wants to be left alone then she should stop attending events and doing interview for magazines. She's eating this attention up. In 2008 she attended an event for a film about Roman Polanski. Obviously what Polanski did was horrible but Samantha Geimer is trying to make money off her story and then she's turning around and whining that people should leave her alone. Ridiculous.

Polanski is a pig, and the fact that the victim forgives him - after he paid her and her family off - is not the point. This slime raped a 13 year old girl. That wasn't okay then, it's not okay now. That was against the law then, and it's against the law now. Everyone and anyone who thinks there isn't anything wrong with this should take a good look at a 13 year old female relative. Would it be okay if it was her? He's a disgrace, and the fact that anyone ever paid another nickel to see anything he made or helped to further his career in any other way should be ashamed of themselves. Why should his age have anything to do with this? Old men rape and abuse children all the time - open your newspaper. The fact that so much time has passed? So what? Pedophiles do not stop abusing children. Wake up.

Don't you understand what he did to this child .I don't care how long ago it was. He raped a 13yr old girl...If they let he get away from it after all these years then our justice system is broke more than we know... They should have gone after him 20 yrs agao... Just because he has money and celb status is no reason to let him get away with it. If it was your daughter you would feel the same way. Sorry she has to be brought up in the spot light but life isn't always easy.

6:39 - If it's what the victim wants, I would allow it being it was so long ago.. he's obviously not a threat to anyone - married w/ 2 children and he hasn't been in the news of any wrong doing w/ anyone else... The victim in this case should be heard.. ------------------------------- Since when did married with children mean that a person wasn't a threat, was a good person, or should not be punished by the courts? As far as I know, marriage and being a parent doesn't mean someone doesn't do bad things or shouldn't be punished for a crime. But if that's the case, I guess all the single people without children are just SOL... But glad to know that my marriage means I get a 'get out of jail free' card. Woohoo!

LA Superior Court is playing with fire! What is the upside of refusing the victims wishes? What public service are the Courts providing in this case? It is going to be a circus and cost a fortune - would it be better to use the time and money putting rapists actually living in LA behind bars?
  • October 26, 2009 - 8:27pm RaeJeanne Says:

I agree with Kris. Should the media and the public rape her again? Yes the crime was terrible. No, I do not think it is necessary to "send a message" in this particular case. This should end NOW, whichever way it goes, but it should be dealt with, if it is further, with just a judge. Watch the system try to milk it to their advantage with a hefty fine that goes to some State and not the victim!
