Ease on down the road? More like blow through it with your powerhouse vocals, Bey! In a newly resurfaced clip — probably thanks to NBC’s recent production of The Wiz Live! — a 7-year-old Beyonce proves she’s always had award-winning pipes.
Dressed in a sparkly Dorothy costume (early House of Dereon, perhaps?), a tiny Queen Bey belts out the ballad "Home" from the hit 1970s musical.
In the 1978 film version of the Tony-winning Broadway show, Diana Ross played Dorothy. And this is not the first time Beyonce, 34, and Ross, now 71, have been linked. In the 2006 film adaptation of Dreamgirls, Beyonce played Deena Jones, a character based on Ross.
Beyonce has no problem showing off her early performances. In her self-titled visual album from 2013, she included a clip of her first girl group, Girl’s Tyme, losing on Star Search.
“I was only 9 years old, so at that time you don’t realize that you could actually work super hard and give everything you have and lose,” Beyonce said of the performance in a behind-the-scenes video. “It was the best message for me.”
