To adapt a line from noted showbiz insider Kermit the Frog, it’s not that easy staying on the air. The major networks cut numerous shows this week in preparation for upfronts later this month, which meant tough news for fans of such shows as Castle, Nashville, CSI: Cyber and, yes, even The Muppets.

ABC doled out pink slips left and right on Thursday, May 12, with the ax dropping for Agent Carter, The Family and The Muppets, along with popular country music soap Nashville, which finishes its fourth season on Wednesday, May 25. (Nashville fans can still hold onto a modicum of hope, as Lionsgate is currently shopping the series to other outlets.)

The network also put troubled procedural Castle out of its misery following a month of turmoil, including the announcement in April that costar Stana Katic (Kate Beckett) would be exiting the show at the end of the currently airing season 8. Castles series finale airs Monday, May 16.

On the same day, Fox said goodbye to its two new star-driven comedies: John StamosGrandfathered and Rob Lowe‘s The Grinder. Meanwhile, CBS’s biggest news came with CSI: Cyber getting the hook and Supergirl moving to the CW.

The bloodletting continued on Friday, May 13 (a day for bad luck, indeed!), as NBC jettisoned Eva Longoria‘s sitcom Telenovela, along with fellow new series Crowded, Game of Silence and Heartbeat. The network also gave the boot to Undateable after three seasons, the most recent of which aired in an all-live format.

On Saturday, May 14, NBC canceled Debra Messing‘s police procedural Mysteries of Laura after two seasons.

The ride ended for Rush Hour on Monday, May 16, as CBS canceled the buddy cop series after one season.

Grab another tissue, and then check out the full list (so far) of shows from the 2015–2016 schedule that will not be returning to the major networks.
