Eddie Murphy Raw . . . at the Oscars!

The comic superstar, 50, is in early talks to host the 84th Annual Academy Awards in February 2012, Deadline reports.

The Hollywood industry site says that Oscar producer and movie director Bret Ratt Ratner is meeting with members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this Tuesday to pitch the Shrek actor as this year's emcee.

Murphy, according to Deadline, is "showing interest."

Two stars who probably won't be on the shortlist for next year's Oscars are Anne Hathaway and James Franco, whose co-hosting gig at the 2011 show were roundly panned.

I don't know how good this would be. His standup comedy has usually come in the form of "Raw." It was so bad last year think they should go with someone similar to the comedians suggested in Kelly Dawn's comment. They need someone clever, funny, and charming. Somehow that description doesn't completely fit Eddie Murphy.

I don't know. If he has the humor as his character of "Donkey", he'll be fine. If he's in the "Raw" frame of ind..nope. They need to go with Steve Martin and Alex Baldwin, again...or even bring Whoopi and Billy Crystal. Heck, Hugh Jackman!!
