The Playing for Keeps actress, 32, is making her return to the big screen next month in the upcoming comedy Accidental Love with Gyllenhaal, 34. The two stars are featured in the first trailer for the long-awaited flick as the unlikely duo of Alice Eckle (Biel) and Howard Birdwell (Gyllenhaal).
Then titled Nailed, production first began on the quirky comedy more than seven years ago, with Biel starring as a waitress who sustains a freak accident that changes the course of her life. Finally completed and cleared for distribution, the movie shows Biel's Alice dating a man named Scott (James Marsden), when she gets shot with a nail gun in the head.
Alice meets Gyllenhaal's Howard after she is refused medical care for her injury and splits from her fiancé Scott. She travels to Washington, D.C. to "help people that have weird conditions that they can't afford to fix," and goes after Congressman Howard for his help. The unlikely duo hits it off, falling in love as his political career grows and Alice spends her days with the nail still stuck in her head.
Tracy Morgan, James Brolin, and Catherine Keener round out the cast of the film, which was originally directed by David O. Russell. Now under the direction of "Stephen Greene," a pseudonym, Accidental Love had early issues with funding and delayed filming, leading to its deferred Feb. 20 theatrical release and Feb. 10 on-demand debut.
