Jennifer Lawrence is on the verge of becoming a household name.
The 21-year-old actress scored the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games, based on the popular book series by author Suzanne Collins. The first of four films will hit theaters on March 23, putting indie star Lawrence in a much brighter spotlight.
"It's really premature to say that it will be the same phenomenon [as Twilight]," the humble actress recently told Vanity Fair. "If it does become a crazy phenomenon, I'll soak up my freedom now!"
The film, which also stars Liam Hemsworth and Josh Hutcherson, revolves around 12 pairs of teenage tributes who must fight to the death in the nationally televised Hunger Games.
"Katniss is an incredible character: she's a hunter but not a killer, a 16-year-old who's being forced into the arena," Lawrence explained. "These kids are killing one another only because if they don't they'll die. It's needless, pointless, unjustified violence. It's heartbreaking. "
