Is Jon Snow actually dead on Game of Thrones? A new theory about the color of his eyes in the Season 5 finale posits that he's alive.

Is Jon Snow actually dead? According to some eagle-eyed Game of Thrones fans, the 998th Lord Commander of the Night's Watch is not dead, despite the fact that he was gruesomely stabbed in the GoT Season 5 finale.

Sure, Kit Harington and the GoT producers have all said that Jon Snow is very much dead and not coming back for Season 6. "I've been told I'm dead. I'm dead. I'm not coming back next season," the 28-year-old actor told Entertainment Weekly after the finale. But many book fans — who have known about the cliffhanger for years now — and recently traumatized show fans have plenty of ideas as to how he could still be alive.

A new theory, outlined by a writer from MTV News, points out an observation that many astute TV viewers saw (or at least thought they saw) in the closing moments of "Mother's Mercy." Did Jon Snow's eyes change color? Did those big brown eyes turn a Targaryen purple as the camera zoomed in on a close-up of his face?

Daenerys Targaryen herself has said she's not quite sure that was the last time we saw Jon Snow alive. "There’s some very helpful people there who could bring him on back to life," Emilia Clarke said in an interview with MTV, although with the caveat that she "in all honesty" has "no idea what's happening."

But still: That can't be it for Jon Snow, right?!
