Reports: Kara DioGuardi Fired From American Idol

American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi has been fired, according to reports.

Deadline Hollywood and TMZ reported Thursday that DioGuardi, 39, was given the ax - the same day Ellen DeGeneres announced she is leaving the show after just one season. A source also tells UsMagazine.com DioGuardi is out.

A source tells UsMagazine.com Jennifer Lopez has been hired and that Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler will likely replace Simon Cowell, who left last season to headline an American version of The X-Factor.

With DioGuardi's reported firing, the show will return to a three-person judging panel, says TMZ.

DioGuardi, a tough-talking Grammy-nominated songwriter, joined the show in 2008.

"It was pretty hellish," she has admitted of her first season on the show. "Yeah, I got slagged. People were ... it was difficult for them to accept the change. It was difficult for them to understand why somebody who nobody had ever heard of could kind of come out of nowhere and sit next to these iconic figures. You know, why was I there, what did I do to deserve to be there?"

But her second season was "easier," she has said, "because I'm not as fearful as I was last year ... For someone who's never been on live television, it's very, very challenging to go from the back of the studio to the No. 1 TV show, and that kind of visibility. And it was very, very, very scary."

DAmmit!... I really liked Kara, well next to Simon of course. I think she really gives off good advices unlike Paula! X-(

I hope AI can survive all the silliness that goes on with the people being fired, and replaced. It is ridiculous. I knew Ellen quit, but I didn't think Randy was going to be the only alum. It is nuts

I'm not so sure Lopez and Tyler are a good fit for the show. Do they produce and write? I suppose if they do, they will be good. (I liked Kara. At first, it was hard to accept her, but I thought she always gave the singers good advice.

No, No! Not singing superstars! I don't think Lopez and Tyler would necessarily make good judges, as they would have too much bias from performers' points of view. I'd rather see judges from the pool of those more "behind the scenes" (producers, songwriters). Kara was a good combination of both songwriter AND performer, as is Randy Jackson. I even liked Ellen's role as a judge "representing the consumer" ~ She's a lover of such a wide range of different kinds of music that I appreciated her opinions. It seems pretty clear that AI is going for the "star power," in anticipation of losing a lot of their former audience. I, for one, will tune in for the potential talent of the contestants ... not to see judges whose egos might cloud their opinions.

While I was never a fan of Kara, I do hate they fired her. I think once Paula left and then Simon, not much chance of success. I'm afraid there are just too many changes for IDOL fans. Good luck to the next batch of judges cause I think they are on the Titanic...

Kazzie, youve nvr heard of Aerosmith? Wow, you must be very young. That aside, this is officially the beginning of the end of idol. Shows rarely remain successful when the original cast is gone, no matter how amazing the replacements may be. Also, next year will be its 10th season and its losing steam. Short of a miracle, the last contract signed...will truly be the last.

  • August 02, 2010 - 9:27am Big mistake - HUGE

Kara D is an extremely talented and passionate singer/songwriter. Don't believe me? Search Youtube for Kara and "Taking Chances" or "Terrified." She'll knock your socks off. Kara always had intelligent and insightful critiques on American Idol. It is a huge mistake that they're getting rid of someone who really knows what she is talking about and can back up what she says.

Kazzie, You need to listen to OTHER MUSIC besides those teeny-bopper pop/rap channels on the radio - IT'S WARPING YOUR BRAIN!! And one more thing, please tell your parents to buy you GOOD cd's for once, because not knowing who Steven Tyler/Aerosmith is,...well,...a crime to society. Either that, or you are from a different planet. I'm kinda thinking that your musical influences have just....sucked. As for the article, WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED?! Here I am thinking I'll get to read why/how she got fired and I only read to find out she's just GONE??? Us Magazine, there is no structure here, missing details and the inability to "WOW". It kinda left me say to myself "Oooooook. Ummm, where's the rest of the article?" Very incomplete and boooooring!

This is not surprising news. I didn't dislike her as other people did but it sure isn't like losing Simon. I think she was kind of a scape goat when Paula was fired and people who hated her already began to REALLY hate her after it looked like "she took Paula's job". It'll be interesting to see how J-Lo and Steve Tyler fit in with Randy. I see J-Lo being "kindly harsh" and Steve Tyler being honest like Randy but being "the nice one" :D....P.S. Oh Kassie, Steve Tyler has been around for literally decades; You may have heard "I don't wanna miss a thing" from the "Armaggedon" soundtrack if that rings a bell. Plus, you will no doubt recognize a pic of him. If not, you are super young and just need to do some research and you'll see he's quite famous. Oh, he's also Liv Tyler's father :D.

Since Paula's departure, American Idol has become a HOT MESS. That's why Simon had the good sense to throw in the "Cowell", I mean towel. Ellen, I don't know why she was there in the first place. She went and it was like thowing ice water on fire. Cara DioGuardi is talented. She was one of the best and would have been good with Randi. These producers don't know what they're doing and now it's down to scrambling until the show slowly dies out. Sere them right, Paula got the last laugh. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I am very sorry to see Kara go. I really liked and respected her opinions about the contestants. Kara knows the music industry and what will work for each contestant. I will miss both Simon and Kara. Good luck American Idol!!

  • August 01, 2010 - 6:10pm Kazzie

Dang it! I'll miss her. J-Lo won't do that well I don't think. I've never even heard of the other guy.

Kara was a nice change from CRAZY paula. She should be glad she is leaving now, before American Idol fails misserably next season. Sorry Randy and Ryan, but its over!!!

  • August 01, 2010 - 1:13pm Momo

She was ok, but glad she is leaving. I will continue to watch next season.

  • August 01, 2010 - 12:22pm Ana

They should get Shania Twain to be a judge. She's awesome.

  • August 01, 2010 - 12:22pm Ana

    Kara is a real bltch.

  • August 01, 2010 - 12:12pm RoRo

I'm sorry to see Kara go-I thought she had evovoled on the show and was coming right along to the point that I respected her opinion. I thought she and Paula were good together in Season 8 and it's sad that she's been let go. A mistake, IMO.

  • August 01, 2010 - 9:01am -

Good! I didnt like her anyway!

  • August 01, 2010 - 1:55am Don't get it

Not a regular watcher by any means but I don't understand why this lady has elicited such a negative response. As I understood it, she had pretty reputable music industry experience and credibility. She couldn't be any worse than Randy "yo, yo dog..yo dog, listen up" Jackson

  • August 01, 2010 - 1:46am Moni

Wasn't quite feeling her, anyways. If she has been fired, wish her the best.
