Deadline reports that the Cold Case regular was one of five actors to test for the role vacated by Chris Meloni. Pino, 37, is also known for his role as Desi Arnaz in Lucy: The Lucille Ball Story.

Former Chase star Giddish, 31, will play a detective on the show as well. Mariska Hargitay will have a reduced role on the show and is only signed on for the first thirteen episodes of the upcoming season.

"Kelli and Danny are two great actors who will join a proven cast headed by Mariska Hargitay as this exceptional series heads into a very promising 13th season," NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt said in a statement.

SVU's executive producer/creator Dick Wolf added: "I'm very pleased that we have two amazing actors joining the cast. I know this combination will give us the opportunity to explore the world of SVU with new eyes."

Can't you people find a unique look? It's always blond women. They all look the same.

and I have to say I'm not to happy with the people that let chris meloni go.. shame on you because without him your show would have been nothing

It won't be the same without stabler and benson but I'll give it a chance. I highly doubt it will be nearly as great as it was with those two... they really made the show!

Goodbye NBC-pardon my FRENCH-but only IDIOTS could make this decision-Benson and Stabler WERE THE Show-its DEAD to me now

Chris Meloni is leaving to the network's unwillingness to up his pay per episode, and Mariska Hargitay decided to return in a limited capacity due to now having a child. I wish both well, but won't watch SVU now. For me, their chemistry made this show a huge part of the joy in watching.

Finn and Munch is good but i mainly watch Law and Order SVU because of Elliot and Olivia and now they're not going to be there anymore i don't think im watching it anymore, it wont be the same without Elliot and Olivia

Wentworth Miller would've been GREAT, but he already guest starred as an unstable detective with a REALLY bad attitude and obviously too much baggage. (Really unlikeable character.)

    Was Wentworth Miller not available?

I love SVU because Elliot and Olivia are perfect together (like brother and sister, and more...) Without them, it's not the same, they are tv icons in SVU. Finn and Tutula are good too.

My daughters and I watch SVU religiously and we are so sad to see Christopher Meloni leave that we are not sure we want to even watch it with the new cast. I probably will give it a chance but I don't foresee that it's going to be nearly as good.

It won't be the same without Christopher Meloni....

I was bummed when I hear Chris wasn't coming back and that Mariska was going to be phased out... but when I found out that Kelli was coming on board, I was estatic! I just loved her in Chase and her kick-butt attitude is just what the show needs. In my opinion, they couldn't have found a better replacement! I'm pumped for the new season now. Way to go SVU!

Wow i didn't know that Meloni was leaving the show! I heard Mariska was going to be on in a more limited capacity. I'm a bit confused by the sudden change or departure from the 2 main characters this season. I don't know what to make of it, and when a change like this happens, its hard to say how the show will manage or survive down the road, even with the other characters still intact. I'm disappointed because i liked their characters, but I've learned quickly that we can do nothing about that and you can either tune in, or tune out and tuning out will communicate to networks that major change just doesn't fly with dedicated viewers of their favourite shows...

@Lori Corsello-Hannan Umm......excuse me, but who are you to be talking to these people like they are pinheads? Do you have anything to do with the show? I am sure that you do not. You speak as if you are one of writers or something and that you KNOW something about ANYTHING. These people are just expressing their feelings about the show as am I. I think it's stupid that they felt the need to find "replacements" rather than just cancel the show. It's inevitable anyway. The show WILL NOT last once season 13 starts. I don't even see it lasting the entire season. Anyway, you ask why we are getting "all riled up"? It's easy, it's entertaninment and nothing else but if it is something that we enjoy watching then yes we will be a little upset if the most important aspect of the show changes...or can't you COMPREHEND that? Obviously are not even a fan of the show anyway if you can sit there and talk this and that about the show's politics. We are fans of the show, we could care less about the politics of it all. GET IT?? Who the EFF are you anyway? Why would you down people and call them idiots for being upset about a favorite show?? It seems that SOMEBODY needs to either get a job or a life or a clue or SOMETHING! (In case you don't know, I was talking about you.)

First of all, these changes were made necessary when Chris Meloni chose not to return to the show for the upcoming season and Mariska Hargitay decided to return in a limited capacity. Some of you seem to be under the impression that the show's producers just woke up one day and decided to fire them. It was THEIR choice to leave. Some of you have such limited comprehension skills, or see one article on the story and decide "those bastard producers! This is all THEIR fault!". Well, it wasn't. When the lead actors decided not to come back, or to only come back in a limited role, they had no choice but to recast. Every time I read one of your assinine comments, I am reminded that idiots like you also vote in elections, and that thought is VERY depressing. I will miss the combination of Benson and Stabler, but I am looking forward to seeing what these new actors bring to the show. Danny Pino was great on Cold Case and I liked Kelli Giddish on Chase. So, we'll see what happens. Tamara Tunie, Ice T, Richard Belzer and Dann Florek will still be with the show, so it isn't a complete cast change. And seriously? It's a T.V. show. What the hell are you people getting all riled up about?

  • June 29, 2011 - 12:31am La Jacks

This will probably be the last season. Too bad. I really like the show.

  • June 28, 2011 - 8:31pm Asiya Abdul-Alim

I enjoy both these actors, but Hargitay and Meloni (Benson and Stabler) are staples. I will give it a shot but I don't think I stay tuned in. Like they say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

No more Chris Meloni? NBC always effs up their shows because their EXEC'S are a bunch of scotch drinking cigar butt plugging retards.
