Leonardo DiCaprio Wins Best Actor in a Drama at Golden Globes 2016 for ‘The Revenant,’ Gets Standing Ovation

Leonardo DiCaprio won the 2016 Golden Globe award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama on Sunday, January 10, for his role in The Revenant. (The movie also took home the Best Picture drama award.)

“Thank you. What an incredible honor. Wow, that meant a lot. Thank you so much. Thank you to the HFPA and to the other fantastic performances in this category, you guys were unbelievable. What a terrific year in film,” DiCaprio, 41, said during his acceptance speech.

“This was about trust and no one we trust more than our director, Alejandro G. Inarritu. Your leadership, your vision, your acute attention to making every day so visceral and real for us — I have never had an experience like this in my entire life,” he continued. “[And] my good friend Tom Hardy, who is a beast, an unbelievable talent, was there every single day.” 

Referring to the film’s plot, he joked: “I know in real life [he] would never bury me alive and leave me out in the cold to die like that.”

DiCaprio was up against Bryan Cranston for TrumboMichael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl (Redmayne won the award last year for his performance in The Theory of Everything) and Will Smith for Concussion

The 73rd annual Golden Globe Awards were held at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills and the show was hosted for the fourth time by Ricky Gervais.
